India just shrunk by 25% on the Jet Airways mileage map

I really thought this was a technical glitch but looks like this is not. Like I wrote a few days back, Jet Airways made a few changes to the JetPrivilege program in late March 2012. One of the main changes was the earning rate for domestic flights in India, where Jet Airways upgraded the program to offer 100% mileage credit to all domestic flights in India. Now, I really expected to earn 100% miles when this change happened but I was thoroughly confused over the past few weeks about the real offering here. Everytime I wanted to book a ticket, lets say BOM-DEL, I would be offered a 532 miles for travel, whereas the real distance between the two cities,…

5%–10% Discounts on summer fares booked on Jet Airways international

Jet Airways has come up with a cocktail of discounts on various travel markets for the summer schedule. Since they don’t all show up in one place, I thought I’d round them up in one post and put it out for all of you here. Take note that all the discounts are on booking via JetAirways.com website: India: 9W is offering a 5% discount on the base fare booked to any Jet Airways destination in Business and Economy class for booking till May 7,2012. Bahrain: 10% discount on the fare booked on Bahrain-India flights in Business and Economy class for booking till April 30, 2012. Bangladesh: 7% discount on fares booked on connections from Dhaka to an international Jet Airways…

Jet Airways offers 25% bonus on credit card conversions to miles till 31st May 2012

I seriously can’t believe my eyes that this one missed my eye. See, I am Jet Airways favourite child, so I never receive their mailers and I am supposed to figure out the entire JetPrivilege program on my own. And I’ve ignored this one for a month or so because some lazy copywriter Jet Airways employs at their office or their website office has the date written as 2011, so I just ignored! Anyways, the good news is that Jet Airways and the credit card partners feel generous and hence a 25% bonus on transfer/conversion of points to miles from any of their 15 credit card partner’s reward points into JP miles. And there are also conversion rewards for the…

Readers Question: Using Jet Airways upgrade vouchers

Reader Abdullah posted a question on the Reader’s Questions page which I thought was more appropriate to answer here since every once in a way I receive queries on Jet Airways upgrades. Here is a quick Q&A explanation: Question: I keep visiting your page as i am too a FF of Jet Airways, though its mostly domestic flights. I need some advice, i have these upgrade vouchers to business class around 6 of them and my status is Gold card holder of jet airways. Whenever i fly i look for best fares but then these best fares dont allow a upgrade to business class. How can i use these vouchers? 1 of this voucher expires april 30 next month. I…

Jet Airways offers 20% off on reward redemptions till Sep 30,12

A couple of days back I wrote about the new benefits that Jet Airways was going to announce in the JetPrivilege program, and the official mailer went out last night to most members on the new program benefits. Most of the benefits are in line with the benefits I highlighted a couple of days back, except that the Priority Baggage Tagging benefit for Silver members was not there when the final mailer went out to members. In one stroke, from being a not-so-generous program for domestic flyers, it has become a good program to earn miles while flying across India, considering earlier you could only earn a paltry 142 miles on a BOM-DEL flight if you booked into the lowest…

Jet Airways revamps JetPrivilege program (in a good way!), adds benefits across the board!

I’ve dried enough ink criticizing the Jet Airway’s Jet Privilege program, with the constant devaluation that has been going on for the past few months. First, they sized down the benefits from the Jet Airways Citibank Credit Card (forcing me to move out of the card), then the lounge access was pruned. Some Jet-lovers, including yours truly, saw it coming and petitioned Jet to rethink their strategy w.r.t. JetPrivilege again. However, the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel seems to have arrived yesterday when some new benefits of the JetPrivilege program went up on the website. I’m sure we will hear more of it in the days to come, but right now Jet Airways seems to have aligned…

Jet Airways consolidates brands, JetLite is now JetKonnect

Recap: The wisdom behind Jet Airways’ 3 airline brands lies in the 2009 period when air travel went down with the downturn. Jet Airways (9W) was always a full-service carrier on the domestic and international traffic out of India. JetLite (S2) was called Air Sahara, till 2007 when Jet Airways bought it out and converted it into a low-fare carrier (branded JetLite). Jet Airways always wanted to integrate both the carriers, except that there was a tax liability which hasn’t been settled 7 years down the line, and hence S2 has not been folded into the main carrier 9W. Jet Konnect was the new brand from Jet Airways, which was launched in 2009. Jet Airways wanted to create a temporary…

Air India back in the running for *A, taking Jet Airways along?

Just a couple of days back I was flipping through the Star Alliance magazine, and was wondering where were they going with Air India because there was no mention in the magazine of AI. However, it definitely was not a closed chapter since AI definitely needs to get into an alliance (amongst other things), to be able to get more traffic on its planes and shore up its finances. Last year, *A left AI on the altar when the airline was grabbing all the wrong headlines for safety issues, financial issues and the systematic failure that it was going to become. There was also news that the Government of India did not appreciate that *A wanted a second partner in…

Jet Airways to add 17 Boeing 737-800 planes to the fleet

It is not all so gloomy out there, or so it looks like. Jet Airways, the market leader in India, has ordered Next Generation 17 Boeing 737-800 planes this month from the Boeing company. And this, after it already has 10 737-800s which are still due to be received from Boeing as per the last order they placed aeons ago.The current order is a confirmation of a 20-B737-800s options that Boeing and Jet Airways guys had announced in 2007, but did not go ahead with at that time. For Jet Airways, this means they have 27 Boeing 737-800s on order now, and which means that the next 1.5 years when these planes will come on-stream,Jet will perhaps replace the leased…
