Review: American Express Lounge, Mumbai Airport, Terminal 1C

Just this past long weekend, I was headed out to Goa for a vacation. Usually, I am accompanied by people, so I do not end up using the American Express Lounge at Terminal 1C, but the Carnations Lounge instead. However, since I was alone, and I had access to the lounge via my Jet Airways Amex, I decided to give it a go this time around. The lounge is set inside the Carnations Lounge itself (as a separate enclosure), The same lounge also houses Jet Airways & Go Air passengers, Priority Pass, MasterCard & Visa Access, and the recent Diners Club bearing passengers. In short, it is a crowd out there and hence I’d anyday prefer to access the Amex…

Reminder: 5 days for Amex MR to Avios

In May 2013, American Express and British Airways started to offer a joint conversion bonus, which offered a 30% bonus on converting American Express Membership Rewards (for cards issued in India), to Avios. Amex MR usually convert to Avios @ 2MR = 1 Avios, however, with this promotion, it goes down to 1.54 MR = 1 Avios. The deadline to convert to Avios is by 15 July, so if you’d like to ride on this conversion, I’d advise you to move your MR to Avios within the next day or two. Amex to BA conversions usually take about 24 hours to reflect in the Avios account. You could find the details in the above mentioned post. In June 2013, Jet…

Something New: ICICI/American Express Altitude Lounge Delhi Terminal 3

Introduction Check-in: ICICI/American Express Altitude Lounge Mumbai Terminal 1A Airborne: Flight AI 660 (BOM-DEL), Air India, Economy Class Check-in: ICICI/American Express Altitude Lounge Delhi Terminal 3 Airborne: Flight AI 657 (DEL-BOM), Air India, Executive Class After a leisurely few days in Delhi, it was time to go back to Mumbai. I’m usually trying to look away from early morning flights, because I do my fair share on work travel, but this time, I was a little bit greedy to spend some more time at home with the family, so I booked up an early morning flight back. I arrived at the airport in good time, and proceeded to the Air India counters to collect my boarding pass at Terminal 3.…

Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus to leave Membership Rewards transfer program (in India)

Thai Airways’ loyalty program, Royal Orchid Plus is on its way out from being a transfer partner with American Express (India), with effect from June 15, 2013. This means, from June 15 onwards, you would no longer be able to transfer your American Express Membership Rewards points to Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus. This was recently communicated on the monthly statements of all members. While I am not a member of the program, since I use other Star Alliance member programs for my Star Alliance miles accruals, I’m hoping this news should help some readers who are a member in both programs and use them actively. This also points out to the further weakening of the Membership Rewards program offered…

Amex India offers 30% bonus on transfer to Avios till July 15, 2013

American Express and Avios have been running frequent transfer bonuses around the globe. The last one they ran for India was in October 2012, with a similar 30% bonus. However, right after that there was a Membership Rewards devaluation, whereby, MR made all airline transfers, which were earlier 1.6 MR=1 mile/point, to 2 MR = 1Mile/Point except Jet Airways. Anyhow, Amex and Avios are now running a 30% transfer bonus, whereby for every transfer of 2000 Amex MR to your Avios account, you will get 1300 Avios instead of the usual 1000. This brings your cost down to 1.54 MR per Avios. This promotion runs till July 15, 2013. Transfer is usually completed within 24 hours. The minimum transfer is…

Poll: How do you use your India-minted miles?

Yesterday, I got involved in a Twitter debate on what is the worth of a mile earned in India, and I thought I’d put my views across on the blog to share with all of you and hear what do you have to say. This will be a series which will focus on valuing the key mileage currencies in India. For earning capabilities in India, there are 4 kind of miles one could earn and accumulate, using different ways. Here they are: Jet Privilege miles: Earn them by flying the airline or its partners, or credit card spends, or multiple program partners who are listed on the airline’s website. Air India miles: Earn them by flying Air India/Singapore Airlines/Lufthansa. Citibank…

A quick 250-1000 JP Miles for you!

Last week I wrote about the potential to win upto 86,400 JP Miles if you went into a massive referral scheme for the Jet Airways American Express Credit Card, via the contest they have up on Facebook. While I did not go all out and spam everyone on my timeline with the referrals, I did plant a lead into their systems to get myself the card. After this, I was given the opportunity to scratch a virtual card, and it turned up with 250 JP Miles for applying. Now, to my surprise, these miles posted even before I got a call for the card. And guess what? Even those who already have the card would get these miles. Thank you…

Amex releases a rather small list of partners for their Jet co-branded CC

American Express’ recently launched co-branded credit card with Jet Airways, has a few new benefits from the Platinum tier of American Express, such as the Platinum Concierge service and access to the American Express Platinum Lounge in Mumbai and Delhi Airports. However, one benefit of the Amex Platinum card which was not offered initially is the about 300 long list of 10x partners. These are places where you could get a nice boatload of MR points. This used to be a feature of their Kingfisher First Platinum Credit Card which was recently withdrawn. Now, however, a very very small list (PDF) has just popped up on the American Express website for upto 20 JP Miles/ Rs. 100 spent. I really…

It can be a royal pain to get the ICICI Bank Jet Airways credit card

There, I said it! I’ve covered all the 3 co-branded partnerships between Jet Airways and different banks on this blog whenever they were introduced. I’ve also gone through the process of acquiring all these cards over a period of time, proof enough of how much I love collecting JP Miles. There has been a certain amount of enthusiasm and confusion wrapped around all the three products launched by the various banks, but ICICI takes the cake. Let me share my experience with acquiring all the 3 cards and the story so far. HDFC Bank: HDFC Bank was the first off the block in August 2012, announcing their credit card partnership with Jet Airways. Since I already had a HDFC Bank…

American Express 10,000 bonus JPMiles are posting

In December, American Express launched their co-branded Jet Airways’ credit card, and as an introductory promotion, they offered 10,000 bonus JPMiles to anyone who applied for the card before December 25, 2012 (and got it approved too!). Yesterday, these points posted in my JetPrivilege account, and from what I heard from other people, they got the miles posted as well. Remember that the bonus is due for everyone who applied for the card before December 25, 2012. Even Platinum JP Members, who may have decided to not pay for the card and forego the regular 20K welcome gift will get these miles if your card was approved. The regular 20K welcome gift will come in on your first spend. Time…
