A loyal reader Arjun Warty, happens to be on the second flight out of the newly cutover Terminal 2 at Mumbai (British Airways 198), and he was kind enough to share his experience and pictures with us. While I am waiting to check out the airport myself, here is what he reported back: The elevated access road is not open, so you have to use the old airport road and take the on-ramp after the line of hotels, near the Sky Chef building. There were guards at the start of the on-ramp checking which flight you were on and directing you to the correct terminal. The entrance is huge and with multiple drop off points I hope the midnight chaos…

Reminder: Mumbai Airport switches to new Terminal 2 on 12 Feb’14
A few weeks ago I had posted about the imminent (re)launch of Terminal 2 at Mumbai Airport. Just as a heads up, the new terminal is all set to take international traffic coming into and leaving Mumbai airport with effect from Wednesday, the 12th of February 2014. Air India’s Singapore-Chennai-Mumbai (AI 343) will be the first flight to land at 1 p.m. at the new terminal, and Jet Airways’ Mumbai London flight (9W 118) will be the first flight to take off from the new terminal. There will be no shutdown for the transition. Here is a video of the new terminal, for those of you who are preparing to come to Mumbai’s International Airport in the coming days. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bgXx3t0l0E…
Mumbai Terminal 2 date (re)set to February 12, 2014
Last week, I wrote about Mumbai’s international operations being switched over to the newly developed Terminal 2 from January 15, 2014. This was based on public domain information available at that point of time. The new status is that the airport terminal was inaugurated on Friday last, and I was not there, because I was busy in meetings. Anyhow, that is not important, but it is important to know that the airport operator has now reset the date for transition of international operations to the new terminal building to February 12,2014. Hence, it is business as usual for this month, and you should be able to take your first flight from the new terminal as of mid-month February 2014. Make…
Mumbai’s new Terminal 2 to go live on January 15, 2014
Mumbai is the one of the busiest airports in Asia, and lived with a constraint all along for zero space availability around the airport to be able to expand it. However, come January 15, there will be a new terminal 2 up and running, which is going to expand the capacity of the airport, to about 40 million passengers per annum, from the existing 32 million passengers capacity. Air India’s Newark-Mumbai flight will be the first to arrive at the new terminal. The airport, which will initially serve international flights, will become an integrated terminal serving domestic flights as well by the end of this year. The new terminal will have 188 check-in counters and 60 immigration counters for departing…
Peeping into 2014 for the Indian skies
I’m back at my desk early this morning thinking and all excited about how 2014 would shape up for work, personal life and my travel plans. As an aviation geek, of course, I am looking forward to trying out new products in the skies and trying to decide what goals should I work towards in 2014. This year might just be a very exciting year for Indian aviation. Here is why: Air India might get accepted into the Star Alliance this year. Air India has been trying to get into the Star Alliance for a long time. After much back and forth, last month, they got invited to join the Star Alliance the second time over. Whether they will join…
Review: American Express Lounge, Mumbai Airport, Terminal 1C
Just this past long weekend, I was headed out to Goa for a vacation. Usually, I am accompanied by people, so I do not end up using the American Express Lounge at Terminal 1C, but the Carnations Lounge instead. However, since I was alone, and I had access to the lounge via my Jet Airways Amex, I decided to give it a go this time around. The lounge is set inside the Carnations Lounge itself (as a separate enclosure), The same lounge also houses Jet Airways & Go Air passengers, Priority Pass, MasterCard & Visa Access, and the recent Diners Club bearing passengers. In short, it is a crowd out there and hence I’d anyday prefer to access the Amex…
A sneak peek into the Diners Club space at the Mumbai Carnations Lounge
This past weekend, I happened to hop on to a flight from the A-gates of the Mumbai airport after a couple of months. And I was in the Carnations Lounge, which I have access to thanks to my Jet Airways status, as well as with the Priority Pass. I’ve seen this lounge shrinking over a period of time, first to accommodate the American Express Lounge which opened up for American Express Platinum members. And now, the Diners Club lounge which is open. Unlike the Amex Lounge, the Diners Club lounge is an open area and not a glass enclosure. It seems the food and drinks are going to be the same as for the regular access available to the lounge…
Going RTW: Celebrations Lounge, Mumbai Terminal 2
Introduction & Trip Index < Introduction EY205, BOM-AUH, Etihad Business Class> The flight timings for Etihad to fly out of Mumbai are at a very odd hour at 4:50 AM in the morning. Odd for me I mean. I usually prefer day time flights, or even with a night flight, a departure closer to midnight so that I can get on the plane and go off to sleep at the earliest. Etihad offers a limousine pickup and drop service for customers flying with them in Business & First Class. Since I was flying Business Class between Mumbai to Abu Dhabi and First Class there on to…
Go Air moves to Terminal 1A in Mumbai
Terminal 1A at Mumbai has been the centre of questions ever since they had to throw out Kingfisher Airlines because of the non-payment of dues. When they eventually made the bold move, there was an abnormality, where Terminal 1B was handling 4 airlines (Indigo, Jet/JetKonnect, SpiceJet and GoAir), while Terminal 1A just had Air India. Here is how terminal 1A looked like: However, GoAir has moved its operations from Terminal 1B to Terminal 1A with effect from July 1, 2013. The airline currently operates 360 movements per week from the city. An aisle of check-in counters at Terminal 1A is now be available for GoAir passengers. The airline has also move its ticketing office to the new premise. It seems…
Something New: ICICI/Amex Altitude Lounge Mumbai Terminal 1A
Introduction Check-in: ICICI/American Express Altitude Lounge Mumbai Terminal 1A Airborne: Flight AI 660 (BOM-DEL), Air India, Economy Class Check-in: ICICI/American Express Altitude Lounge Delhi Terminal 3 Airborne: Flight AI 657 (DEL-BOM), Air India, Executive Class I arrived at the Mumbai Airport in time for the flight, in spite of the fact that it was a working day and I had a late-afternoon flight. This involved arriving at office a couple of hours earlier than usual, and skipping lunch to make the one hour plus trip across town. On arrival at the airport, I proceeded to Terminal 1A, which is currently full of banks of empty counters and only has Air India occupying the terminal. Heck, even with that, they were…
Jet Airways introduces transit between Mumbai International & Domestic terminals
Jet Airways has recently made some amends to the international passengers who use their gateway in Mumbai and need to transit further into the country. Till a few days back, one would have to arrive at Mumbai’s terminal 2, clear immigration & customs and collect their baggage, redeposit it with the transfer desk, and then go to Terminal 1B using an airport operated shuttle bus, which used to frequent about every 30 minutes making it a very cumbersome process. Now, they’ve secured a couple of gates at the International Terminal (Terminal 2) where incoming international passengers on Jet Airways flights between 0230 AM and 0645 AM at Mumbai will be able to transit directly to their flights from Terminal 2C.…
