Premiermiles Transfer: Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer

PremierMiles Devaluation w.e.f. February 1, 2015 PremierMiles to Etihad Guest conversion PremierMiles to Air India Flying Returns conversion Singapore Airlines is one of the first transfer partners I want to cover for your PremierMiles conversion options from outside of India. I’ve converted PremierMiles to KrisFlyer miles a couple of times, once to get on one of the Ultra Long Haul LAX-SIN flights by Singapore Airlines in Business Class (on their all business class product), before they discontinued those. Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer is a great way to get award tickets on Singapore Airlines own metal, since availability is much more to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Members  as compared to other Star Alliance member programs, who hardly get any availability for Singapore Airlines’…

Don’t act in a haste on converting your PremierMiles

I’ve been on top of this PremierMiles situation since the day Citibank announced the upcoming devaluation. I can only thank my stars and yours that the devaluation is coming with a notice, and not unlike the time when Jet Airways and Citibank broke up relations overnight. Citibank will put the new transfer rates into effect from February 1, 2015, where each airmile conversion will work from 1 PM = 1 airmile to 2 PM = 1 airmile. So far, no changes are envisaged to hotel conversions. This means, even when you effect a transfer on January 30, 2015 you will still get a 1:1 conversion when it lands up into your frequent flyer account. I’ve seen loads of emails and…

PremierMiles Transfer: Air India Flying Returns

PremierMiles Devaluation w.e.f. February 1, 2015 PremierMiles to Etihad Guest conversion Since the devaluation of PremierMiles was announced last week, I am trying to post on all the options available for all of us to transfer into various frequent flyer programs, our hard earned PremierMiles. Yesterday, I wrote a post on Etihad Guest, and today, it is time for Air India’s Flying Returns program. I’ve covered bits and pieces of the Air India Flying Returns program over the times. Air India joined Star Alliance last year, so your miles on AI can now be used for redemptions on Star Alliance member carriers as well. On a whole, I find Air India’s program to be an expensive program, in comparison to…

Some thoughts behind why PremierMiles were devalued

Yesterday, I put out the sad news about PremierMiles conversion changing from 1:1 to 2:1 and also the relatively minor devaluation of using PremierMiles as cash for booking tickets. I have a feeling I should lay out an educated guess about why conversion options are being hit more than the use as cash. This, is all a result of inflation over the years, as well as the foreign exchange movements over the years. First, about the inflation. I know inflation does not directly impact the price at which conversions should happen, and loyalty programs regularly adjust their redemption rates to account for inflation. However, maybe the price at which the loyalty programs sell to banks and other establishments also changes…

Citibank sharply devalues PremierMiles, another time!

I hate to start the New Year with some sad news. In 2011, I’d called the Citibank PremierMiles the best travel credit card around in India, because you could earn 1 airmile across airline programs for every INR 25 spend, and then you could earn 1 airmile across airline programs for every INR 10 spend for air tickets or booking via specific websites. With effect from February 1, 2015, all that changes.Citibank is devaluing the transfer ratios for the transfer to their partner airlines from 1:1 to 2:1, which means, 2 PremierMiles = 1 Airline Mile. For your reference, the following airlines are partners with Citi for conversions to airmiles: Cathay Pacific Delta Airlines British Airways Thai Airways Malaysia Airlines…

Etihad Gold till March 2016 with Citi Prestige

One of the key reasons for me to have signed up with the Citi Prestige Credit Card which was launched in India earlier this year, was the plethora of status it comes with in terms of travel. Some of it I need, some of it I don’t. One of the first requests I filed in to get a Status upgrade was on Etihad. Etihad offers Gold status, which is their second-from-top status to Citi Prestige Members. This could be useful for members in India since you are getting an alternative to Jet Airways’ Gold status, and it comes with pretty much similar benefits on Jet Airways as Jet Airways’ Gold status, apart from being useful on other airlines such as…

Have Citibank PremierMiles and Jet Airways patched up?

It has been a rocky relationship for the past two years after Citibank and Jet Airways broke up. First, Jet Airways disallowed Citibank to offer redemptions on PremierMiles, which were significantly cheaper than Jet Airways’ own JP program. Then, overnight, JetPrivilege and Citibank cut ties on the transfer partnership for PremierMiles –> JetPrivilege Miles.  Endgame was the removal of Jet Airways flights from the PremierMiles portal and a new way to redeem for Jet Airways flights. Ultimately, Citi and Jet Airways slammed the door on each other by discontinuing their Ultima relationship as well. Things have been changing over the past few weeks though. May I say Time is the greatest healer. First, out of nowhere, I saw that Citi…

Reminder: 4 more days to get Citibank PremierMiles referrals

Earlier this month, I’d put out information about a great referral offer that was being run by Citibank for existing PremierMiles card holders, who can refer their friends and family for new Citibank PremierMiles credit cards. The referrer gets 5000 PremierMiles for each successful application they make, and this is capped at 5 PremierMiles cards referrals per card member. For taking up on this offer, the referrer has to generate and send out custom email links by September 30, 2014, while the receiver of the referral offer has up to October 31, 2014 to apply using that link and get approved for the credit card. In case you choose to apply for the card, you get 10000 PremierMiles in the…

Earn upto 25,000 PremierMiles with Citibank PremierMiles referrals

Apart from the existing referral program, where Citibank is offering INR 2000 as cashback to referrers for sourcing new members till September 30, 2014, there is another referral program going on through out September 30, 2014 for sourcing Citibank PremierMiles cards only. Like with the other promotion, you need to use the link (in this page above) to generate custom links for everyone who you want to invite for a new Citibank PremierMiles Credit Card. Once this is done, they have a month to apply using the custom link sent to them. If the card gets approved, you get 5000 miles for each successful referral, up to 25000 miles. For each new applicant, you get 10,000 PremierMiles for opening a new…

Citibank adds Jet Airways as a conversion partner for Citi Prestige India

When Citibank launched the Prestige Card in India, they did not have Jet Airways listed as a conversion partner. The initial list of airline conversion partners were the following: AI Flying Returns SQ KrisFlyer BA Avios Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus Malaysia Airlines Enrich Eva Air Cathay Pacific AsiaMiles Delta SkyMiles Etihad Airways However, a comment from a reader, Manish Singh, got me curious if Jet Airways was brought on board, and this afternoon I managed to check up the Citibank Prestige website, which does include Jet Airways as a conversion partner now. While I am personally rolling in more JPMiles than I perhaps need at this moment and won’t use this conversion partner, I figure some of you may…

Citibank, Axis Bank & American Express Credit Card Referrals in India

Citibank offering up to INR 9999 for member referrals in India Citibank ran a pretty lucrative member-get-member promotion earlier in the year, where they offered the originating member (who made a referral INR 2,500) per card referral which was successful. Citibank is now back with a new promotion, where you get INR 2,000 per card referral which is successful, up to 5 cards for INR 9999. I think the INR 9,999 limit comes into play because at INR 10,000 or more, they’d have to start doing Tax Deductions and issue TDS certificates as well. You need to have an existing Citibank Credit Card or Citibank Savings Account to be able to make a referral. The person you refer to, should…
