Transit UK airports without a visa now

Back in October I had written about the new policy change with the UK government, which would allow for Indians to transit the UK without the need for a Direct Airside Transit Visa or a regular Visa, as long as they had a visa for the USA or Canada. Now, I wasn’t sure about this myself because this did not update on the UK Government’s website as quickly as I hoped it would. Heathrow is one of the busiest airports around the world, but clearly they were not a favourite for many Indians because of the high costs to even transit the airport. Apart from the other issues that go with it, such as an Air Passenger Duty which is…

Should Hyatt Regency Delhi make promotions they can’t keep?

Just this morning I wrote about a promotion the Hyatt has gone to town about, as a part of the Great Online Shopping Festival. It is a straightforward promotion, which asks to apply a coupon code, and you get 50% off rack rate. When I realised about this promotion yesterday, I started to look up rooms at the Hyatt Regency Delhi, for the benefit of some folks who really really wanted to stay about there. But, I run into this wall… I reached out to Hyatt Concierge on Twitter, who initially told me the hotel would contact me, but 22 hours later had not. When I reached out to them again, the hotel was only having blackout dates for those…

SpiceJet limited to bookings 1 month ahead only by regulator

Looking at the troubles Spicejet is undergoing at the moment, the regulator for aviation safety in India, DGCA, ordered them to stop accepting bookings beyond the 30 day period, amongst other measures they took against the airline over last weekend. First things first, here on, because Spicejet’s schedule integrity has gone for a toss, the DGCA ordered it to stop bookings for a period more than 30 days out. Initially, Spicejet did not comply with this decision, however here on, you cannot book Spicejet tickets more than 30 days out. Their website displays this notification very clearly. When I tried searching for a ticket more than 30 days out, I got nothing. However, they are still selling tickets for the…

Vistara completes proving flights, on track for license

Air Vistara, the upstart full-service carrier which is backed by Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, seems all set to receive its license soon. The airline had received their first plane a few months ago, but getting their paperwork together turned out to be a little more time consuming than they thought it would be. Anyhow, it turns out, in the late nights of last week, Vistara’s crew operated DEL-BOM-AMD-DEL and DEL-JAI-DEL to complete the 5 proving flights that are required to get an Airline Operator Permit in India. With this move, Air Vistara looks all set to take off, and hopes to receive its license next week. We still don’t know a date for launch of operations, but it should…
