Vistara completes proving flights, on track for license
Air Vistara, the upstart full-service carrier which is backed by Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, seems all set to receive its license soon. The airline had received their first plane a few months ago, but getting their paperwork together turned out to be a little more time consuming than they thought it would be. Anyhow, it turns out, in the late nights of last week, Vistara’s crew operated DEL-BOM-AMD-DEL and DEL-JAI-DEL to complete the 5 proving flights that are required to get an Airline Operator Permit in India. With this move, Air Vistara looks all set to take off, and hopes to receive its license next week. We still don’t know a date for launch of operations, but it should…
Vistara’s loyalty program to be called ‘Club Vistara’?
Vistara, the newest Indian airline, and a new full-service airline to come into India after a long while, is going full swing to get off the ground at the earliest moment possible. They recently got their first plane delivered, an A320 by the registration number VT-TTB, and VT-TTC is also going to be over shortly. One of the interesting parts of an airline for me and this blog is the loyalty program. I’m personally loyal to a few airlines, and I think loyalty programs to lead to repeat traffic for customers. For Vistara, it seems Club Vistara may be the name they choose for their loyalty program. They recently signed up with social media handles with this name on Twitter…
Tata SIA unveils its brand identity: Vistara
Last week, I discussed about the newest full-service carrier in India revealing its identity today. Just about an hour back, they confirmed what we discussed last week in this post. Today, at Hotel Taj Mansingh in Delhi, the new airline which will launch within the year came up with its new identity. Here is the logo, which is in the shape of a 8-pointed star, which is actually a maths symbol, called Yantra. The airline livery was also unveiled today, will have the purple as its brand colours with golden edges to go along. Here is the tweet which showcased the livery. Welcome to the world of limitless possibilities. Say hello to #Vistara pic.twitter.com/1w4VlR9Qhi — Vistara (@airvistara) August 11, 2014…
Vistara: Is this the Tata-SIA airline brand name?
Tata – SIA has been very guarded about the name of their airline, which will be known on Monday, August 11, 2014. The branding exercise is work in progress, and the airline executives like to say they have many options, and Vistara is just one of them. However, Tata’s PR is maybe trying to follow an Apple style leak based philosophy, where they may be spreading the word out at the last minute. Anyhow, when I put out the information about the brand launch yesterday, a reader Arpit Jain tweeted back with the name, and it seems like there is already a domain registered with the brand name as well: @LiveFromALounge @RNTata2000 So this seems to be the Airline’s domain…
Tata – Singapore Airlines Joint Venture to announce brand name on August 11, 2014
Tata/Singapore Airlines seems to be making good progress in getting the airline off the ground by the end of this year. They are right now working on fixing up the identity of the airline, and just yesterday, did announce that they will outsource ground handling to Air India. Via Mint: Tata-SIA Airlines Ltd, the joint venture (JV) between Tata Sons Ltd and Singapore Airlines Ltd, is pursuing an outsourcing model for its operations in India and has tied up with state-owned Air India Ltd to execute parts of the strategy before its expected takeoff in October. Air India will manage ground-handling and engineering services for Tata-SIA, said two executives at the national airline who spoke on condition of anonymity. The…
Tata–Singapore Airlines JV gets set for launch
Last year, I wrote about Tata’s upcoming joint venture airlines with Singapore Airlines, which is the second JV Tata made in 2013 to get back into Indian aviation. Along with Air Asia, they’ve already launched a low-fare carrier called Air Asia India last month, and now the focus is on getting this one off the ground in another couple of months. While Air Asia India is a no-frills carrier, the new Tata/Singapore Airlines carrier will be a full-service carrier which will compete with Air India and Jet Airways on metro routes to start with. They’re in the process of getting their Air Operators Permit in India right now, and their first Airbus A320 (to bear registration VT-TTB) took to the…
Peeping into 2014 for the Indian skies
I’m back at my desk early this morning thinking and all excited about how 2014 would shape up for work, personal life and my travel plans. As an aviation geek, of course, I am looking forward to trying out new products in the skies and trying to decide what goals should I work towards in 2014. This year might just be a very exciting year for Indian aviation. Here is why: Air India might get accepted into the Star Alliance this year. Air India has been trying to get into the Star Alliance for a long time. After much back and forth, last month, they got invited to join the Star Alliance the second time over. Whether they will join…
Singapore Airlines & Tata join hands to launch an airline in India
I was travelling all day yesterday and hence could not bring you the good news! The Tata conglomerate, some of whose family members have been really passionate about aviation, put their hat back in the Indian aviation game earlier this year. First, they signed up to be a 30% shareholder in Air Asia India, which plans to launch a low cost airline in India by early 2014. And just yesterday, a new press release from the Tata group announced that they have signed up to make a 51:49 joint venture with Singapore Airlines, which will aim to launch a full-service airline in India with an initial investment of $100 million. While I am totally surprised by the move to cover…
