Hilton Hotels have announced their new points earning promotion which will run between May 1, 2014 to July 31, 2014. You earn Double (base) Points or Miles on all stays during the promotion period. This is close on the lines of SPG announcing a similar promotion. To be able to earn 2x Points/Miles, you need to register using this link, prior to your first check-out. About 600 properties have opted out. There is only the DoubleTree by Hilton Pune which has skipped this promotion from India. Those of you who are regulars with the Hilton HHonors program in India would know that the DoubleTree by Hilton Goa is(was) one value gem in their portfolio at Category 1. Last year, I had a very good stay at this property for 2000 HHonors points and cash, and one night redeemed for 5000 HHonors points. Now, this year, at a very short notice, the property is going to move from Category 1 to Category 3, which means that the redemption requirements will move from 5000 points to 20000 points. I’m kind of beginning to wonder what exactly happens at the backend of HHonors which sometimes makes it so lousy. Regular readers would remember that I had a disappointing experience with the Hilton Shillim a couple of months back, and the hotel’s General Manager offered to refund the points & money for the stay. For the recently gone Independence Day long weekend, I decided that it would be a nice idea to go back to Goa during the rains. This may be a speculation at the moment, however, most of these speculations somehow have a way of coming true.
