Emirates to operate the A380 on Dubai–Mumbai route from July 21, 2014
A few days back I wrote about the announcement of Emirates to fly their A380s into Mumbai, close on the heels of Singapore Airlines launching their A380 services in India this past weekend. We now have a firm date for this move. Emirates will switch flights EK500 and EK501, which used to operate on the B777ER, to a three-class A380 from July 21, 2014. Emirates to start A380 service to Mumbai in July 2014
Emirates is surely stamping their foot and thinking how it missed the opportunity to be the first to fly their A380s to India, and Singapore Airlines will get that piece of marketing from here on. Anyhow, they’ve now announced they will move in to become the second carrier in India to fly the A380s, and they will deploy the A380s to India by upgrading one of their flights from Mumbai in July 2014. Quite interestingly, this information issued by the airline is not backed by the facts yet. Emirates launches a new Platinum tier
Emirates, India’s unofficial national airline (for carrying over 11% of India’s international traffic!) has announced a new Platinum Tier on Tuesday, as it gets ready to roll the red carpet on its new partnership with Qantas. Emirates’ Skywards program already had a Blue, Silver & Gold tier which one could qualify on achieving 25K Tier miles (Silver) & 50K tier miles (Gold). However, the new Platinum Tier is a significant uptick and will be only awarded to members who earn 150K Tier Miles per annum, and will be launched on April 1, 2013.
