IHG Rewards Club has returned with another new gamified rewards promotion, where members earn bonus IHG Rewards Club points on completing a set of stay-oriented tasks within a limited period. The new IHG Double Points promotion is valid for stays from September 16, 2018, through December 16, 2018. The concept is similar to their Accelerate promotions, but the hotel chain has changed the name for this one time. IHG later announced that they’ll be extending this promotion up till December 31, 2018.
To participate in this promotion, members have to first register on the IHG website. Once registered, you can access the dashboard to see what your tasks are going to be. Keep in mind that the tasks given to you are applicable only on qualifying rates. Some of the last Accelerate promotions on similar lines included 2018 Summer, 2018 Spring and 2017 Fall.
The offer which is common to all members is that they can earn double points on from the second stay onwards during the promotion period. This bonus is capped at 15,000 points, and the rest of the tasks vary from member to member. As of November 2018, this cap has been removed.
In my case, I have a chance to earn up to 24,500 bonus points when I complete three tasks within the next hundred-odd days.
Now even though there are not too many points up for grab, I can quickly complete them as these tasks align well with my travel plans for the upcoming Mileage Mentor MasterClasses in Delhi & Bengaluru. As these tasks can be completed in any IHG properties, I’ll probably pick a cheap Holiday Inns & Holiday Inn Express properties to complete this challenge.
While the 24500 points might not get me a lot, I’m willing to hold onto my points till I find some great redemptions using future IHG PointBreaks promotions.
Ajay has a different offer, of course, being the high-roller of the LFAL Gang. But he says he won’t bite because this is too low for him to switch stays to IHG.
Bottomline
IHG’s Double Points program is a great way to supercharge your earning potential when you are staying at one of their hotels. Though the number of points on offer isn’t that many compared to previous challenges, it may be an idea to register for this offer before making future travel plans.
