Small Luxury Hotels(SLH) of the world is a consortium of 520 boutique properties across 80 countries. SLH runs a membership program, The Club of SLH. This is a 3 tiered membership (Special, Loved and Honored) and it is completely free to join the program.
SLH is offering a direct sign up for their second tier, Loved status to AMEX Platinum, MasterCard and Diners Club card holders. A Club members usually qualifies for the Loved tier after completing 1 night’s stay in any of the participating properties. So, essentially you can skip the entry level, Special tier and join the club directly as a Loved member. As a Loved member, over and above the benefits enjoyed by Special members you get complimentary breakfast for 2 and late check-out subject to availability.
If you have the required credit cards, you can sign up to gain access to your Loved membership by clicking here
I took a quick look to see how many Indian hotels are a part of the SLH and it turns out that there are only 2 Indian properties participating; a resort in Kerala and a palace hotel in Jaipur, Rajasthan. To better understand the value, I took a quick look at the rates being offered directly by the Fragrant Nature resort. The base category Lake View room is priced at USD 100/ INR 7,000 per night during the peak season with a breakfast inclusion, which is not very expensive. On the contrary, rooms at The Raj Palace, Jaipur are priced at a premium and only start at USD 550/ INR 37,400 per night.
Bottomline:
While chain hotels are always my choice, staying in boutique resorts (like I recently did in Nepal) adds another dimension of experience. If you have access to any of the credit cards mentioned above and enjoy staying at off – beat small resorts, it is a good idea to sign up for the SLH Club as you will have a chance for a room upgrade and complimentary breakfast.
