Amazon is exiting Indian Credit Card Reward portals on June 30, 2022

When it comes to buying goods in India, there is no better spot to do so than Amazon. Many shopping portals for credit card issuers, such as HDFC Bank Smartbuy and American Express Rewards Multiplier also built their volumes by giving out up to 33% of the ticket value as Rewards to their customers. However, the party is now coming to a close, effective tomorrow by most accounts.

Amazon to exit Rewards Multiplier and HDFC SmartBuy

Amazon India has now decided to pull out from some of the major rewards multiplier programmes across the Indian Credit Card industry. Two of the confirmed ones include American Express Rewards Multiplier and HDFC Bank Smartbuy. On the American Express Rewards Multiplier portal, there is a clear notice displayed about the fact that Amazon will be a member of their rewards programme only till June 30, 2022.

HDFC Bank’s Smartbuy is also running a ticker on the Smartbuy website to this effect.

It is not clear if the other portals, such as Yes Bank YesCart and so on that are running 10X promotions, and websites such as InterMiles, Cashkaro, etc. which also rebate shopping on Amazon are also going to be affected, but this is a big move from Amazon to pull out from all the major card portals.

In case you are planning to shop for something, maybe an idea to place the order before 2359 hours IST on June 30, 2022, from the Amazon India website.

Bottomline

If you intend to do any big shopping for which you expect to earn credit card points, you should do so before 2359 hours IST on June 30, 2022. This is because Amazon is exiting all the Cashback/rewards-based affiliate relationships in India. Their motivation is not known and we could all guess what it could be, but for now, this is a no go from the company.

  1. Amazon has been declining all infinia payments for carts filled after the Smartbuy affiliate login. This has happened to me twice in the last two weeks and once again yesterday. Looks like they’ve already stopped the offer.
