Looks like I am up for a MegaDo!!!!

It was a test of technology that is now turning into a test of patience! This morning (late evening in India actually), I sat in front of my laptop waiting for the clock to strick 930 CDT. There were hints that the booking for the upcoming OW MegaDo in Jan2012 could start earlier than the 10AM deadline. Of course I was already envious of those who could have made it to the LAX launch party and had a right of first refusal to all seats on the plane.

At roughly about 10 AM, the site started giving all the error messages which pointed to a huge rush. Despite the best efforts and intentions of the MilePoint team, MegaDo.com where the booking engine was hosted was crashing. And then, we were given tips to bypass the front end and log in straight to the backend server.

There was a lot of confusion and chaos, but it looks like I have managed to secure a seat on the OWMD coming up three months from now. I say looks like, because I haven’t managed to cross the payment hurdle yet. So I am eagerly waiting to pay up and then start putting in place the other flights needed to arrive/depart from the Do.

I am also looking forward to hearing from American on the group booking rates for the JFK-LHR-DFW leg so that I could hook on there.  Other BoardingArea bloggers will also be there, including mommypoints and Gary Leff.

All in all, this one looks like an adventure with all the 3 Star MegaDo’s being a big hit in the years gone past. And don’t be surprised, this one sold out in half an hour! Now only if all scheduled flights were as exciting, perhaps airlines won’t have to worry about filling their planes!

Though what I am bummed a bit about is touching down on BFI. I was there only a few months back to visit the Museum of Flight, and was looking forward to BFI. Also, I do hope this becomes a more substantial oneworld MegaDo rather than just an American Airlines MegaDo.

Back to scheduled programming now. I need to go and get set for the inaugural Formula 1 Grand Prix of India which starts in a few hours. 😉
