You don’t need to bring an RT-PCR report to arrive at Bangalore Airport, apart from select states

On March 25, 2021, it was reported that the Karnataka health minister Mr K Sudhakar had said that all passengers travelling to Bangalore from any state in India would be required to produce an RT-PCR negative report. This guideline was only supposed to be applicable for those who stayed within Bangalore municipal limits. For the rest of Karnataka, the old rules apply.

This statement has led to considerable confusion. The orders backing up this announcement never arrived, much like a similar announcement in Delhi in February 2021, where no official orders were issued. So, at this point, the arrival into Bangalore is not required with an RT-PCR Test, except for those arriving from Punjab, Chandigarh, Maharashtra and Kerala, which is much like the rest of the state.

This has been confirmed by the Bangalore Airport as well.

The bottom line is if you are booked to travel to Bangalore, don’t worry. You won’t have to carry a test report, at least for now, apart from arrivals from Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab and Chandigarh.

  1. In my honest opinion, PCR Report should be made mandatory for every domestic travel irrespective of the state you travel from/to. This is the only way you can protect travellers, else you will never know if any covid positive person is sitting next to you in the plane.
One can easily bypass this requirement by taking a flight to a nearby state and fly to Bangalore.
