Vistara and Lufthansa launched a codeshare relationship in December 2019, with Lufthansa fliers being able to further take on flights on Vistara inside India with a Lufthansa code on the flight. Now, Vistara and Lufthansa have initiated the next level of their partnership. With effect from October 27, 2021, both the airlines will enable their own frequent flyer programme members to earn and redeem miles on the other’s network.
Earning Club Vistara points on Lufthansa flights
If you want to earn miles on Vistara for your Lufthansa marketed and operated flights, here is the earning chart. These can be any Lufthansa flights, for instance, between Frankfurt and New York, as long as one of the following fare classes are booked.
Earning Lufthansa Miles & More Miles on Vistara flights
Here is how many Lufthansa Miles and More Miles you will earn on Vistara flights, when not booked on a Lufthansa airline group code (Lufthansa/Swiss being the marketing carrier that is!)
Redeeming Club Vistara points on Lufthansa flights
For redeeming Lufthansa flights with Club Vistara points, here is the partner award chart. Screenshot enclosed below. The territory definitions are in the PDF, but Z09 is North America subdivided into three zones. These are one-way economy class flight prices in the ‘000s of Club Vistara points. For Business Class, you need to pay 4X of these prices. You need to call Club Vistara to redeem miles for Lufthansa flights.
In this case, India to Germany non-stop flights on Lufthansa will cost 50,000 Club Vistara points for Economy and 200,000 Club Vistara points for Business Class.
The partnership between Vistara and Lufthansa offers a lot of value to the frequent flyer programme members of both airlines, more to the members of Vistara than Lufthansa, for whom it is one of the 80 or so partners. Lufthansa members already had Star Alliance member Air India to offer redemptions, but for Vistara members, this is a huge win because they can now earn and burn miles in more ways than earlier. There is no elite partnership yet, and it does not even have to be because there is no status sharing between the two airlines.
What do you make out of the Lufthansa Vistara partnership on the frequent flyer front?
