Air India’s Vande Bharat Phase 2 start May 19: Over 100 Flights to 31 countries including Canada, Central Asia, Australia, Thailand planned

Air India is well underway with the first leg of the Repatriation flights mission, where over 60 flights will be operated between Air India and Air India Express to bring back about 15,000 people to India from the U.S.A., U.K., Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, Singapore, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Oman and a few other countries which I don’t recall at the moment.

Updated as per updated Schedule of May 12, 2020. Still not a confirmed schedule.

Now, Phase 2 of these flights is being finalised, and this time around as well, Air India and Air India Express will be running the show for now. As per internal Air India documents sighted by LiveFromALounge, at least 100+ flights are going to be operated by Air India between May 19 and June 2, 2020, for now. This is tentative and will be confirmed within a day or two by the Government of India/Air India after discussion with the relevant states who will need to put in place quarantine for the returnees on these flights. Flights to 29 countries are planned by Air India and Air India Express, using the Boeing 787, 777 and the Airbus A320 fleet of AI and Boeing 737 fleet of IX extensively.

Bottomline

This is great news for Indians who are stuck abroad at the moment and want to repatriate back to the country. The second Vande Bharat schedule looks even more promising, with flights into Central Asia, South East Asia, Europe and the USA apart from some of the usual suspects. Take note that this is not the full schedule, and there will be more flights that will be organised under Air India Express as well.

    • @Atul, outbound flights will also start when this schedule is approved, however, first this schedule needs to be finalised.

        • @Rasi, For Boeing 787s, 777s expect outbounds only from BOM/DEL where the aircraft is parked. Also, not all outbounds are going to be up for sale, only where the other country accepts returnees at this point.
