Citibank Ultima & Jet Airways parting ways

Things are going sour very fast between Jet Airways and Citibank. Earlier in May 2012, they parted ways on the Jet Airways/Citibank credit card and things have never been the same again between the two. Jet Airways ended up partnering with 3 banks to counter their earlier partner Citibank: HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank & American Express. However, the statement at that point of time was that Citibank Ultima – the super premium luxury card product from Citibank, was not going to be affected with this turn of events. Ultima is an invite-only product, and one of the benefits of the product is that it comes with Jet Privilege Platinum tier membership, a heapload of Jet Airways miles and vouchers. Turns…

Jet Airways deal with Etihad Airways

News of a strategic partnership between the airlines has been discussed since September 2012, and of late the news is hitting the peak, also helping the stock price of the listed entity Jet Airways in the meanwhile. While there was a lot of discussion earlier in the past week that grounded carrier Kingfisher was taking away the funding cake from Etihad, with the lollipop of handing out operational control to Etihad (along with a 46-49% equity stake), Kingfisher categorically denied the news. However, the board of Kingfisher airlines met last week as well, to limit investments by institutional investors to create space for an airline to take stake in it. Remember, time is running out for KFA who may have…

Jet Airways on verge of strategic partnership with Etihad

In September, I had written about the possibility of Etihad investing in Jet Airways. Turns out I was not the only one who was thinking like that, even Jet & Etihad seem to be thinking on the same lines. As per Reuters, they have news from an insider Indian ministry of Civil Aviation that deal between Jet Airways and Etihad is almost a done deal, and will be at a substantial premium to the market price. Extracts from the news report filed: “The talks are on. This is more or less final. It may take around a month and half,” the government source told reporters, referring to the Jet-Etihad negotiations. “This deal is not just about investment but also technology…

Breaking: Jet Airways American Express Platinum card launched

The news I’ve been waiting for. Like you know, Jet Airways parted way with Citibank for their decade old co-branded credit card and tied up with three partners instead: HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and American Express. I’d talked about the imminent launch of this product last month. HDFC Bank went first with releasing their product, and ICICI Bank went next. These have been in the market for a while now. American Express seemed to take some time, since they had to first disengage with the Kingfisher co-branded credit card they already had in operation to launch the new product with Jet Airways co-branding. Anyways, all the hard work is behind us and the new credit card has now been launched.…

Jet Airways pulls out of Delhi–Milan from 1 Feb 2013

Jet Airways has been out on a carnage, trying to examine and take a hard call on the routes and making sure only profitable routes survive. Yes, that is a dream for all airlines to be able to dictate prices and still have their planes full on the places they fly. However, Jet Airways has had to bite the bullet and they’ve recently withdrawn from Mumbai – Johannesburg and Chennai – Brussels – New York JFK, while still maintaining presence in New York via the BOM-BRU-EWR flight they operate. However, airlines frequently need to invest money in building a route, and those things work sometimes, and not at others. There is cost of hiring staff, setting up a station and…

So I had another good flight with Jet Airways Premiere

I must admit I have not been flying Jet Airways on my domestic routings of late. I have heaps of trip reports to write, but essentially, when I went by for my little holiday to the Park Hyatt Goa in June, I had a no air-conditioner flight on Goa to Mumbai. I decided I when I got back to be treading away from them for a while, but I already had reservations with them for this November trip so I thought I’d brave it out this one time then. Jet Airways, on the other hand, seemed to have other plans for me. I was travelling my regular BOM-DEL segment, something I do a zillion times. I’d asked for an upgrade…

Jet Airways ICICI Bank CC: Increased Sign-up bonuses till Nov 30

You must be wondering why I haven’t spoken much about this card yet. A few weeks back I’d detailed the launch of the Jet Airways ICICI Bank Credit Card range, and also how it was a better product than the HDFC Bank Jet Airways Credit Card. Somehow, the actual delivery of the card to the customers was delayed, but I now hear things are all good to go, and card applications are all set and being processed. ICICI Bank had launched a pre-booking offer, offering 50% bonus on the welcome miles they were going to provide. So, with the highest end card, i.e., Sapphiro, you could earn up to 5,000 bonus JP Miles over and above the 10K you were…

Jet Airways is trying to get back into classy mode it seems. In the past, they’ve tied up with restaurants in Hong Kong to provide dining services to their premium cabin passengers on the Hong Kong – Mumbai flights. Now, there is a new fine dining experience being rolled out from November 1 through 8 on selected Mumbai – Delhi and Delhi – Mumbai flights, being called “Restaurants in the Sky.” Jet Airways has tied up with some fantastic restaurants from the Oberoi Group (which is one of India’s leading luxury hotel chain) to present meals to their Premiere (business class) customers on specific flights in this coming week. Right now is a good time to fly Jet Airways First Class!

On award redemptions, obviously! Jet Airways F suites, fitted on their Boeing 777-300 ERs only, are consistently rated as one of the finest travel product in the air, high up there with Lufthansa, Emirates and the others. In fact, Turkish and Thai Airways, who were using 9W planes on a lease built some quality soft-product around Jet’s hard product.Have a look at the promotional picture from their website below. You can check out the website here, a trip report here, and more pictures here! Pity, when I flew them Mumbai to London a few years back, I did not save the pictures else I’d have shared some of my own pictures with you as well. But I can tell you,…
