One of the changes that I’ve witnessed in the past weeks in the way Jet Airways charges a convenience fee / Optional Payment Charges. If you go back to 2012, Jet Airways had started imposing a fee to book from it directly, to cover the costs of the transaction, I assume. This fees, when started in 2012, was not very uniform and was charged basis the cabin of travel and routes (domestic/international). I heard a while back that this fee was not being charged anymore, and it did not show up when I booked some tickets for my family late last month, so I assume this was gone for a few days. However, as per Jet Airways, this charge is…

Jet Airways to withdraw bonus miles for web/kiosk check-in
Long long time ago, in 2008 or earlier, some genius inside Jet Airways, and I don’t mean it in a sarcastic way, figured the best way to reduce the crowd at the airport check-in counters was to incentivise people to check in via computers. And the incentive, they figured, was a bunch of extra miles. They started to award 250 bonus miles per sector to everyone who ever checked-in on a domestic or international flight via their website or kiosks (and SMS back in the day) on Jet Airways, and 125 bonus miles per sector for those using JetKonnect/JetLite. I’m assuming it worked well to influence the behaviour of people who travel with Jet Airways and JetKonnect and encouraged them…
Upto 75% India airfare sales extend till Feb 27 and Jet Airways joins in
On Monday, I wrote about the sale that SpiceJet and Indigo sparked, where they offered discounted pricing on flights at least a month out. They called it “75% off compared to last-minute prices” however, I’d like to look at it more like a marketing gimmick, because who in their right minds would compare last minute fares to 30-day fares. The point is, there is still saving if you book now as compared to booking ten days down the line. The sale has now been extended by SpiceJet to 27th February 2014 midnight, as a response to Jet Airways coming into the fray. Indigo is in the fray as well, but no official word on if the sale is up till…
Free Ticket codes very good reason why you should keep your Jet co-branded credit cards
One of the query I receive frequently from readers has been about the renewal for their Jet Airways co-branded credit cards issued by HDFC Bank, American Express and ICICI Bank. Most readers find it attractive to receive the card in the first year with 15,000 to 30,000 JP Miles as sign-up bonus, and want to cancel it after the first year because the second year renewal benefits are not as good, and they are paying the same amount of fees. While everyone who likes collecting miles across the globe loves to look at the US banks and the ability of US residents to churn credit cards every 3-6 months for big sign-up bonuses, it is a heartbreak indeed that the…
Jet Airways offering double miles on Bangalore/Hyderabad–Abu Dhabi & v.v.
Like I wrote a couple of weeks back, Jet Airways is launching new routes from Bangalore & Hyderabad to Abu Dhabi. To celebrate this launch, they are offering double base miles for the first two months on these sectors, i.e., between March 1 and April 30 2014. This means you can net about 8300 JP Miles if you fly economy on these route round trip before this date (including 250 JPMiles for web-checkin and 500 JPMiles as online booking bonus per segment). If you have some sort of status with Jet Airways, you’ll get your tier bonuses as well. If you travel business class, you can get another 850 miles per segment approximately. And not to forget, if you book…
Etihad’s 50.1% stake buy in JetPrivilege cleared
Back in 2012, I had written about JetPrivilege, the loyalty program of Jet Airways, being spun off into a separate company. Some of the biggest Mileage programs around the world are run as independent companies, and I saw this approach as no different. However, it came handy when the deal was to be made between Jet Airways and Etihad for a strategic alliance. Etihad typically uses the loyalty programs to fund a lot of money for the airline. They infused a huge amount into the TopGuest program of Air Berlin, and then they bought out a majority stake in JetPrivilege for about $150 million. When this deal was formalised, I’d hazard a guess that I must be worth $250 as…
Jet Airways adding flights to Abu Dhabi from Bangalore & Hyderabad, offers 10% discount
Jet Airways is on an expansion spree to Abu Dhabi. After it’s Chennai – Abu Dhabi launch, and is adding two more flights to Abu Dhabi from Hyderabad and Bangalore, from March 1, 2014. These flights will be on 737 aircraft, and the schedule is as below. To kick off these sectors, Jet Airways is offering a 10% off on economy as well as business class tickets on these routes, only via its website www.jetairways.com. Unfortunately, this discount is not stackable with the 5% base fare discount offered by Jet Airways on its co-branded credit cards. Jet Airways offering special fares and double miles on Mumbai-Paris-Mumbai
Last week, I wrote about the new long-haul flight from Jet Airways, which will be Mumbai – Paris – Mumbai, a daytime departure from India to get into Paris, and an overnight flight from Paris to Mumbai. Jet Airways has announced special fares for this route for any dates, which will be available for purchase upto February 10 28, 2014. So if you like Paris in November, or in January, or in the summers, you can lock in your seats at INR 45,000 all inclusive for economy and INR 1,53,000 for business class already. There is also more, the airline is offering double base miles for those who fly before July 13, 2014, which means you can net about 19000…
India Fare Sale Update: Air India, Jet Airways, Go Air, Indigo & SpiceJet offering 50% off fares
A few days back, SpiceJet started out the first 50% off sale of the year. Next, there was Indigo, GoAir and then Air India. Everyone, including me, was waiting for Jet Airways to get into the game as well. And they did, last evening. Jet Airways is offering 50% off tickets till end of 24 January 2014 on JetKonnect, which is their low cost subsidiary at www.jetkonnect.com. You won’t find these fares anywhere else, including JetAirways.com. The beauty of JetKonnect is, it sells full-service flights on JetAirways as a codeshare flight as well, but at 50% off to the full fare available on JetAirways.com. Have a look at the instance below, where you see the Jet Airways symbol along with…

What is interesting to note, is that there is also cooperation with SkyTeam more often now, with this route into Paris, and the potential move of Jet’s European hub to Amsterdam from Brussels. This comes on the back of another report where Jet Airways will…
