Indigo has been at the forefront of monetising everything, including 500 grams excess baggage on hand which they’d not let inside the cabin. However, they’ve now worked out a new model on how to charge change/cancellation charges, which looks pretty reasonable to me. The move is towards rewarding early changes and cancellation by charging them lesser fees, and to penalise those who change/cancel at the last minute by charging them a higher fees. This is applicable for bookings made on or after April 1, 2015. For bookings made before April 1, 2015, the old rates continue to be charged, which is INR 1500 per change/cancellation on domestic bookings and INR 2000 per change/cancellation on international bookings. Personally, I don’t fly…

Get an on board meal free if you book your Indigo flight by 4 Jan 2015
Indigo is promoting its mobile app with a unique promotion. If you book a flight by tomorrow (January 4, 2015) using the mobile app, Indigo will provide you with a free on-board vegetarian meal (usually a selection from their on-board menu of a sandwich/snack and a drink). Of course, as the promotion states, you need to make a booking at least twenty four hours prior to travels. I don’t see any other terms and conditions or promotional codes to be used. I’ve always loved Indigo for their funky meal packaging, and here is my last experience flying Indigo a few months ago. 15% discount (or not!) on Indigo flights for booking till Dec 12, 2014
As a part of the Google organised Great Online Sale Festival, Indigo is offering 15% discounts on base fare on all domestic and international flights. To get these discounts, you need to be booking a roundtrip, and use promotion code 6EGOSF to avail the discounts. The tickets can be booked between 10-12 December 2014, for travel between 15 January 2015 to 30 June 2015. Now, unlike with the Jet Airways’ discount, the Indigo discount is slightly more difficult to obtain. Firstly, the discount can only be applied to round trips, and on regular fares. Indigo also offers round-trip fares which are slightly discounted (called Return Fares). Secondly, your discount does not show up till you get on the payment page,…
Now, you can order a cake on board your next Indigo flight
I’ve always been a fan of the quirk factor of Indigo, however I don’t travel them much since I don’t get a cut of some sort from them (read a loyalty program). But other people I know don’t have any hangups flying Indigo, and that keeps me busy with their website at least. Which brings me to last night’s chance discovery. I had booked some tickets on Indigo, and I was doing seat assignments via the manage booking section on the website. One of the new features I could notice was the ability to send cake for someone on the flight. Basically, you will be able to add a 1/2 kg chocolate brownie cake, which can be delivered to your…
Airfare sales: Indian airlines going for each others jugulars?
Considering this is my personal blog, this could be my op-ed piece this weekend. I’ve been noticing two trends this year. Firstly, a certain red airline has been putting out a lot of fare sales across the board this year. I have lost count and I haven’t even put out all the sales on the blog but only a few of them. Have a look: Jet Airways, Indigo and SpiceJet offering Indian fare sales till August 4, 2014 Spicejet & Indigo offering sale fares for travel between August to October 2014 SpiceJet INR 999 sale for 2015 dates SpiceJet and Indigo 40% off sale fares till June 19 Selective Fare Sales on Jet Airways and SpiceJet today SpiceJet selling tickets…
Jet Airways, Indigo and SpiceJet offering Indian fare sales till August 4, 2014
A fare sale a week keeps the customers happy and flying, while the airlines, they keep ‘em drying out of cash. Yet, this is the reality of the Indian market and somehow we are back to the days 2-3 years back when airlines would drop their prices frequently to get each others’ customers to fly on their airlines. How they call it, is stoking demand, but I guess mostly it is the same people who’d have flown anyways moving their business elsewhere. SpiceJet, as usual, brought out another bout of fare sale this week. These sales have given them marketshare. They are selling discounted tickets till the end of August 3, 2014 (India Standard Time), for travel between September 1,…
Flight Review: Indigo, Economy. Mumbai – Jaipur,
Everyone who reads this blog knows I am a Jet Airways loyalist on the domestic sectors, and I do fly Air India from time to time as well. I just see more value out of flying a full-service carrier, as long as reliability is not in question. For a flyer with erratic schedules like me, it is important to be able to use the lounge to get some work done pre-flight if possible, and sometimes the only meals I eat are on the plane, so yes, they are important. I recently decided to get back on Indigo after a very long time, maybe about 3 years or so. I just wanted to see what’s new and what is consistent in…
Spicejet & Indigo offering sale fares for travel between August to October 2014
Update: The sale has been extended till July 20, 2014. I am having a hard time keeping up with the frequent sales, and I am guessing you are too, but I’m personally committed to help you get low fares and travel smarter wherever I can help you. So, in that intention, another announcement of a sale fare which is perhaps the 4th, 5th, 10th … scratch that. I’ve lost count. Spicejet held a sale for 2015 dates earlier this month, and now they are back with a sale, where they are selling seats at INR 1699 upwards for dates between August 18, 2014 to September 30, 2014, a period between which some long weekends and important Indian holidays come through…
Indigo launches automated early check-in
Indigo has launched a new feature yesterday, called Advance Pass. A complimentary facility, which you can select while booking your ticket, will make sure you are automatically checked-in and your boarding pass is sent to you on email when check-in opens (48 hours prior to the flight departure time). Indigo allows you to pre-select your seats at the time of booking or after booking your flights, and charges a premium to book the first 3 rows or the emergency exit rows. Also, the first 7 row window and first 11 row aisle seats are charged for booking. However, you can get all these seats, if not bought out by anyone else, free of cost when check-in opens 48 hours prior.…
SpiceJet and Indigo 40% off sale fares till June 19
I’m trying to keep up with these fare sales but they don’t seem to stop! I think the Indian leisure flyer hasn’t had it as good in a few years now, with continuous sales on offer by various airlines, however, these sales are causing a lot of pain to airlines such as SpiceJet of course. SpiceJet started off by offering a sale fare yesterday morning, which will be available till June 19, 2014 and has some attractive offers. For instance, the Mumbai Delhi sector which usually sells at INR 5000+ is on offer at INR 2999 all inclusive. You can ticket these sale fares between 17 and 19 June 2014 and travel between 19 July and 30 September 2014. Of…
Personal Electronic Devices on India’s airlines
A few weeks back I had written about the regulatory notification which modified the rules for the use of Personal Electronic Devices on airplanes while in flight and on the ground. Since then, I’ve waited for airlines to go ahead and execute the rules on the ground. I’m glad to report now it is no issue to use your electronics on board. Here is a collection of various domestic airlines and how they are implementing the rule at this moment: SpiceJet: SpiceJet was the first off the block. They claim they were the first to implement the revised rules, however they are allowing the use of PEDs/phones only above 10,000 feet even now. As per their COO, they don’t find…
