I recently discussed the new presence of Indigo on Twitter, which makes it the fourth domestic airline from India to get on Twitter. The other ones, in the order of their Twitter account being established are/were: @JetAirways (2008), @FlyKingfisher (2008), @FlySpiceJet (2009) and now @Indigo6e (2013). Now, I am no social media expert, but I thought I’d share my thoughts and experiences with you on all the Indian airlines on Twitter. Twitter, in my view, is a broadcast-engagement channel for individuals and businesses now. It came a long way from being microblogging, where one put out one-liners about what they were feeling or doing. Maybe my views are colored by my great experiences with @AmericanAir and @DeltaAssist, with whom I…

Go Air joins in on the Jet Airways sale
Last Saturday, Jet Airways put out a large number of seats on sale, which can be booked for travel upto 331 days out. It turns out, GoAir has also joined in the sale. GoAir is selling tickets from Rs. 1,675 onwards till August 9, 2013, for the following travel period: August 9, 2013 to October 10, 2013 January 13,2014 to March 29, 2014 Although the stated dates are these, I also was able to spot some other dates which have the stated fares. So, if you have some travel in mind, this might just be a good time booking up. Related Posts: Jet Airways sale: 7,00,000 domestic seats on sale till August 9, 2013 Live From A Lounge is present…
It is a good time to book your festive travel now
Airfares have been hitting the roof, or that is what I have been hearing for a while now. And it has to be the case, with inflation and oil prices both heading upwards, and the instance of Kingfisher going under, that airlines realised they can’t keep on dishing out discounting tickets and hope to even break even, forget making profits. However, sales come out from time to time, and this year we saw SpiceJet, Indigo, Air India and Jet Airways all throwing their hat in the ring every time one of them dropped prices. For my personal travel, as long as I have visibility on various travels, I prefer to book it far out during one of these sales of…
Go Air moves to Terminal 1A in Mumbai
Terminal 1A at Mumbai has been the centre of questions ever since they had to throw out Kingfisher Airlines because of the non-payment of dues. When they eventually made the bold move, there was an abnormality, where Terminal 1B was handling 4 airlines (Indigo, Jet/JetKonnect, SpiceJet and GoAir), while Terminal 1A just had Air India. Here is how terminal 1A looked like: However, GoAir has moved its operations from Terminal 1B to Terminal 1A with effect from July 1, 2013. The airline currently operates 360 movements per week from the city. An aisle of check-in counters at Terminal 1A is now be available for GoAir passengers. The airline has also move its ticketing office to the new premise. It seems…

The economics of Spicejet’s fare sale and justifying the regulator’s action
I got quite some amount of pushback on the SpiceJet sale that happened last weekend and I thought I’d pen down my thoughts here. I think there were 2 sorts of concerns, firstly about people not being able to find the fare and secondly about the concept of the sale as a whole, with a bleeding market as a whole. I first heard about the sale on Friday morning 0800 IST approximately, and immediately got down to work on rearranging some of my existing travel which would have anyways happened for me or my family. For instance, I had a ticket booked for my brother, who was going to be on a DEL-JAI-BOM flight during the sale period and was…
Things are changing at Indian airlines….
I happened to remember this one series of hoardings I had spotted a while back while travelling in the country. I thought it would be interesting to share, and managed to find this on an aviation humor website. Looking back, can someone tell me who changed and who did not, eventually? I think 9W/Jet Airways turned out to be the eventual winner. While the flying models of Kingfisher are doing their job at a bleeding airline where service standards are going down and Go Air has no clear direction to go in!
