Boeing just handed the keys of the 10000th 737 plane to Southwest, making it the world record holder for the most produced jet in the world. Congratulations Boeing for achieving this feat!

In which, a buffalo rams into a plane on its take-off roll
I sometimes wonder if I have seen enough of life, or do I need to see some of this stuff I keep hearing about. What I heard about today was totally bizarre and unimaginable. At the Surat Airport (STV), in India, there was a stray buffalo, which hopped on to the runway in the dark, right when a Spicejet flight was on its take off roll, on its way to Delhi. This incident happened last evening at about 7:30 pm. The plane, a Boeing 737, has had some gruesome damage, however all the passengers on the plane were fine. Not surprisingly, Spicejet decided to discontinue their flight operations from Surat after this incident. Here are some pictures, courtesy the Twitter…
I’m coming home…
Oh boy. I hate going quiet on the blog but sometimes life takes you places where you take a plane and go, and there is just so much going on that your laptop is perpetually starving for battery and hence the posting has to wait. So, the past few weeks, while I’ve been trying to post, I’ve been over to Europe, the USA, and then after a quick trip to Kolkata, I found myself again on the road for two weeks in a row… which was essentially supposed to be one trip to start with. I was over to the Netherlands for a week, and while I was supposed to do some more meetings in other parts of Europe while…
Air India to launch Delhi–Sydney/Melbourne triangular flights on their B787s
Back in February 2012, I had written a post about the plans Air India had to launch their Boeing 787 flights to go over to Australia, in a triangular flight to Sydney and Melbourne. The timing aspect did not quite work out in the manner they thought they’d like to launch, and late 2012 has now become August 2013, however, they are good to go, and launch a daily flight as of end-August 2013 between these cities. They are going back to Australia after 16 years, and I hope they get enough traffic to justify this decision. As per AirlineRoutes.net, the flight is going to go 4 times a week in terms of Delhi-Sydney-Melbourne direction, and 3 times a week…
Air India grounds 787 fleet
Air India has followed the rest of the pack into grounding its 787 fleet of 6 planes as of 17 January, following the FAA advisory issued in the USA. The Indian regulator DGCA followed into the steps of the FAA, and directed Air India to ground all the 6 planes, till Boeing could prove sufficiently to the FAA that the planes are safe. The Boeing 787 serves largely domestic routes at this moment, and 3 international services to Dubai, Paris CDG and Frankfurt from Delhi. The DGCA has formed a committee to look into the safety and engineering aspect of the 787 as well. Air India’s 787 had a technical snag on the inaugural flight as well, and reportedly had…
Air India goes 787 on Delhi Paris CDG from January 2013
Air India is flush with their Boeing 787s now, and as per the recent reports have received 4 Boeing 787 planes as of December 31, 2012. Since September 2012, when they took delivery of the first plane, the 787’s are now in operation on various domestic as well as international segments for Air India. They are frequently found on DEL-BLR-DEL, DEL-MAA-DEL, DEL-CCU-DEL in the domestic skies. Internationally, Air India first put them out on the Delhi – Dubai segment (DEL-DXB-DEL), and then introduced a flight to Frankfurt on the 787s in October 2012. Air India says the 787 has made this route operationally profitable. With the addition of new planes, now the next route which is intended to be moved…
Ethiopian upgrades Mumbai flight to a 787 daily
Ethiopian, the first African carrier to receive the Boeing 787, is now putting up a daily service to Mumbai from 11th November onwards with their 787. The initial plan for this service was 25 November, but ET brings it up ahead and replacing the Boeing 767 which flew this route earlier. As per AirlineRoute.net, here is the schedule of the flights: Addis Ababa – Mumbai Service begins from 11NOV12, previously planned from 25NOV12 ET610 ADD2120 – 0450+1BOM 788 DET611 BOM0540 – 0800ADD 788 D ET611 with 787 service from 12NOV12 Ethiopian is a Star Alliance member airline, and their 787 looks amazing from the inside, as compared to national carrier Air India’s 787. This gives one more option to those…
