25% off on long-haul redemptions in British Airways/Iberia

Avios was formed a year back, and that is when British Airways switched to this new mileage currency. Now, to celebrate a year of the switch, Avios is offering a discount of 25% on long-haul redemptions on the British Airways and Iberia network, in all their cabins (economy, business and first). While Iberia is not servicing India, British Airways serves quite a few bases in India, including Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. Now, British Airways is known for passing on the high fuel surcharges on their flights to the passengers. However, a 25% discount should make you feel better. So, BOM-LHR is 25,000 Avios + Taxes/Fuel Surcharge in Y. However, the lesser redemption value would show up as 18,750 Avios +…

Citibank PremierMiles offers 30% transfer bonus on British Airways Avios & 20% on Etihad Guest miles

I don’t know if Citi is playing catch up with the American Express offer for 30% bonus miles on Avios transfers / Etihad Guest Miles or it is their own initiative, but they just got some new brownie points in my book. I’d been secretly wondering if there were ever going to be bonus offers on mileage transfers via Citi PM, but looks like Christmas did come early. For those of who look to redeem your miles for international travel, I find British Airways Avios to be an acceptable program over some other partners Citibank has for their card. Delta – bad availability,  Singapore Airlines – expensive (as compared to others), Etihad – very expensive redemptions. With BA’s distance based…

American Express offering 30% bonus on transfer to Avios (British Airways!)

I was just waiting for this to happen in India. American Express has been offering a transfer bonus on British Airways currency Avios for a while now, and different time periods for different countries. I was hoping India was on the map as well, and I just heard that was indeed the case. For a limited time, till November 30, American Express is offering members who have Amex cards issued in India a 30% bonus on transferring their Membership Reward points to Avios (the mileage currency used for British Airways and Iberia). Usually, 1.6 MR transfer into 1 Avios, but in this case, the redemption level looks better, and you can convert MR into Avios at 1.23 MR = 1…

Earn double Avios for your flights from India on British Airways

British Airways is offering double Avios for all return flights booked from India to London and one additional onward sector (and back) for all bookings made on BA between July 19 to August 19, 2012 to commemorate the Olympics, travel can commence anytime on or before October 31st to avail of this offer. And this seems stackable with the British Airways faresale I wrote about yesterday (valid only till tonight!) BA is frequently criticised for the high fuel surcharges on award redemptions for its flights, sometimes the cost of a ticket itself. However, it also provides great value in short segment travel. As per the terms and conditions of the offer, members can avail the double Avios on return bookings…

BA Executive Club increases tier points as a part of program overhaul!

By now, you should have already had a look at the new BA Executive Club cards that I posted on the previous post. They look swanky, I’d say. According to the Business Traveller, who got access to the Executive Club overhaul of BA, there are quite a few interesting changes to the EC program. Let’s have a look at some of them: Tier Points on long-haul flights: Full-fare long haul flights in Y used to earlier get 60 tier points. This now has been increased to 70 tier points. The multiplication bonus of 1.5x for World Biz, 2x for Club World and 3x for First passengers stays. Introduction of Super long-haul band: For flights over 6,000 miles, a new super…

The day which a lot of people have not been looking forward to. Burn Baby Burn (the movement to redeem BA miles before the new look Avios set in), is officially over. Like you read here earlier, the BA program is changing. Here is a look at the new cards that are going to grace your wallets, sock drawers or wherever you keep your Frequent Flyer cards….. I like the look of the Gold card, though, you have to wait up for my next posts to know if you and me could have it in our pockets or not. Welcome to Avios!!! Hat tip to BusinessTraveller

BA switches from BA Miles to Avios Points as its loyalty currency from November 2011

a close-up of a logo

The merger of British Airways and Iberia, which was agreed upon in April 2010, was obviously going to lead to synergies amongst the two carriers, but the mileage programs did not see it yet. And now, BA and Iberia have something to show on this aspect. Since both the carriers are going to operate under their own brands, so the Executive Club, BA’s loyalty program retains its name. But BA is promising to change the way you can earn and spend on BA. And it looks like it is taking feedback on the way. Here is a part of an email I just received from the Executive Club, We know how important the Executive Club is to our customers, and…
