Star Air inducts first Embraer E175 into their fleet, adds business class offering

Star Air is the aviation operation of the Sanjay Ghodawat Group, which entered scheduled aviation as a regional routes operator in 2019. The airline had 5 ERJ145 aircraft in its fleet, and it covered an impressive network of 16 destinations with these five 50-seater aircraft, which included the likes of Bhuj, Jamnagar, Kohlapur and so on. Here is a look at their route map from their latest inflight magazine.

Star Air inducts Embraer 175 LR into its fleet.

Star Air recently inducted two Embraer E175 aircraft in its fleet. The airline took delivery of its first E175 in February 2023, and the second of these aircraft arrived in March 2023. Both these aircraft are on lease from Nordic Aviation Capital and were in the fleet of Belavia before this. One aircraft was initially delivered in 2019 and the other in 2020, so they are pretty much new aircraft with much life left.

Star Air’s Embraer E175 is a narrow-body, twin-engine jet airliner that can accommodate 76 passengers in a two-class layout with 12 business class seats and 64 spacious economy class seats. The aircraft is known for its fuel efficiency, low noise and advanced
technology. With the addition of the second Embraer E175, Star Air now has seven aircraft in its fleet, with two more on the way.

Here are some shots of the newly launched business class on the airline (courtesy of the airline since I did not make it to the inaugural flight). The business class section is offered in a 2-1 configuration on this aircraft, with 12 seats and a 36″ seat pitch.

Additionally, Business Class passengers enjoy complimentary seat selection, a 20 KG baggage allowance, and priority check-in and boarding. Once onboard, they will be served an in-flight hot meal as well.

Star Air’s E175 started operations with the Bengaluru – Hyderabad – Jamnagar – Bengaluru circuit on May 13, 2023, three times a week, adding a fourth frequency on May 20, 2023. For an inaugural promotion, they offered tickets at just INR 7,000 for the first 500 customers, but it seems these are already gone.

The E175 aircraft will also have 64 Economy Class seats in a 2 – 2 layout with a 31” seat pitch.

Bottomline

The Embraer aircraft are a great jet-powered product focusing on the market that does not support a 180-seater plane. It is good to see Star Air get the growth it deserves in the regional aviation segment in India. The airline has now inducted its E175 aircraft into the fleet, which means they now have a business-class product available in some sectors as well. The newly inducted aircraft will initially serve a Bengaluru – Hyderabad – Jamnagar – Bengaluru rotation three times a week, taking it to four times a week shortly.
