Here is a quick way to earn an SPG elite status this year. Starwood is running its status challenge all through this year and giving away opportunity to SPG members to fast track their status to Gold and Platinum.
All you have to do is complete one-third number of nights required in a continuous 3-month period. For example, usually 25 nights are required in a calendar year to achieve the Gold status but through this challenge you only need to complete 9 nights in 3 months. Similarly to earn SPG Platinum you need to complete 18 nights against the usual requirement of 50 nights.
Members will need to register for this Status Challenge by calling the SPG Customer Service Line. However you will need to check your eligibility to participate. In order to be eligible you should have not done a status challenge before. Also you cannot challenge a status level that you have earned in the last 5 years. For example if you were a Gold in 2014 then you can only register for the Platinum challenge.
You must register by the end of this year and choose a consecutive three-month period. For example, if you register this month in April then the Challenge period options for you will be :
- March-May 2017
- April-June 2017 or
- May-July 2017
Award nights will not count towards the challenge and you must book eligible paid nights. Here are all the terms and conditions you need to know about this offer.
Bottomline:
If you have a reasonable number of paid stays coming up this year, then earning an elite status is definitely worth a shot. SPG Gold comes with fairly good benefits like room upgrade and late check-out. Also, with Marriott merger and interoperability of benefits, it’s worth earning a Starwood status if you do not have a Marriott status.
