Kingfisher Airlines does it again. Its almost like they are all listening to Britney Spears’ Oops I did it again. Ok, bad one! IATA has, for the second time in two months, suspended Kingfisher Airlines from their membership. This means all IATA affiliated travel agents cannot sell Kingfisher Airline tickets anymore. The airline promised to issue a statement shortly. Here is the Reuters report which talks about this. The last time around, Kingfisher Airlines took a long while to get reinstated into IATA. They blamed their problems on financial systems not working properly hence payments not reaching the IATA. Some member airlines had stopped honor tickets issued on Kingfisher Airlines stock. So, if you are booked by KFA on any other carrier,…

Air India back in the running for *A, taking Jet Airways along?
Just a couple of days back I was flipping through the Star Alliance magazine, and was wondering where were they going with Air India because there was no mention in the magazine of AI. However, it definitely was not a closed chapter since AI definitely needs to get into an alliance (amongst other things), to be able to get more traffic on its planes and shore up its finances. Last year, *A left AI on the altar when the airline was grabbing all the wrong headlines for safety issues, financial issues and the systematic failure that it was going to become. There was also news that the Government of India did not appreciate that *A wanted a second partner in…

Kingfisher’s new transfer offer: upto 30% transfer bonus till 31 March 2012
Kingfisher Airlines may not be the darling of everyone anymore but they sure are planning to keep up the loyalty program King Club in high spirits. King Club is one of the more generous programs around, and Kingfisher Airlines allows for a lot of award space in India and decent award space outside the country on their own planes. Back in September 2011, they had a very sweet transfer bonus of 20% for all transfers which ran through November 2011, which I advised everyone to take because the airline was in decent shape and they were on their way to join oneworld. Also, there is a decent list of airline partners where you could book your tickets with your KingClub…
Kingfisher’s new International schedule
Further to all the noise about the grounding of Kingfisher’s fleet last weekend and further cutbacks in service, there is now an update from Kingfisher Airlines on the trimmed down schedule it is now operating. With the 28 aircraft the airline has kept in the air right now, they are expected to fly about 170 flights a day. I’m breaking it into two parts and posting the international operations first. London: 1 daily service from Delhi and Mumbai daily now on the A330. Singapore: Mumbai – Singapore – Mumbai downgraded to A320 till March 24, back to A330 from March 25 onwards. Dhaka: Kolkata (CCU) – Dhaka (DAC) – Kolkata (CCU) continues on the ATR-66. Colombo: Operations only from Chennai…
Kingfisher staff quits en-mass, partial operations shut domestic and internationally
The murk with Kingfisher Airlines gets deeper by the day. The airline has a foot-to-mouth existence for the past few months and we all know that. They haven’t been able to pay salaries to the staff for the past 3 months, and last month there was news that many senior pilots have jumped ship to rival LCC Indigo Airlines, where they were offered a 4 month joining bonus if they signed up before 15th February 2012. There is breaking news on Indian television right now that over the past 2 days, i.e., 18th to 20th February 2012, about half the staff strength of 7,000 employees has put in their papers. As if not being paid for 3 months was not enough…

Arriving for the OWMD on a non-stop with a fuel-stop!
The MegaDo is a sea of aviation experiences, or so am I told. And to come into the MegaDo will be marked by experiences like the British Airways Denial of Service and a fuel-stop on a non-stop flight was only symbolic. I was reading a few days back on the Wall Street Journal that Transatlantic flights on smaller planes were now having to make a fuel stop before they managed to get to their destination After I arrived in Brussels on Jet Airways 228, I was to further go to JFK on an American Airlines flight AA171 (BRU-JFK) which was going to fly on an American Airlines 757-200. When I did arrive at the gate agent’s counter after clearing transit…
I’m off to fetch some MegaDo swag for all of you! Its a giveaway!
Its here, tonight. I’m off to my 28,600 miles, ten days, nine airports, meet three airlines and make 171 new friends trip and it is called the oneworld MegaDo. I’ve been chronicling my preparation for the MegaDo over the past 10 weeks, and you all could read it here. It should be exciting, and I’ll learn a lot of ways to travel without sleep and jetlag hopefully! We, the MegaDoers, are obviously not going for anything else but the hunt for the perfect swag. Randy Petersen gave a little teaser of what was coming our way on the MegaDo website which looked like this: This is only a peep of what is coming. There is all the goodies from the airlines…
1 Week to OWMD: Preparing for Seat 33A
Its almost looking in my face and I think I am excited for my first MegaDo this coming week. Yes, going away from work for a whole ten days means I am having to do the extra hours over the already extra hours I put in at work everyday. So, I am just trying to make sure everything is in order when I finally leave home for the airport. The next update on the oneworld MegaDo I’ll post is most probably going to be when I get started with my MegaDo journey, but I sure do have something exciting for you all and I am waiting for some confirmations before I post it out here 😉 Lets catch up with…
American discontinues its only flight to India, what is next?
I woke up pretty bummed this morning, reading it first on Lucky’s blog, that American Airlines is discontinuing their ORD-DEL-ORD flight AA292/293 with effect from March 1, 2012. The airline is perhaps using its time under the Chap 11 to take some hard calls, and killing their longest flight seems to be one of them. American has been offering this route on a Boeing 777-200 since November 2005, and till so far, it was their only route serving India. I was on this flight hardly 20 days back on my EXP qualification spree, but it looks like a no-brainer that those SWUs I earned will not be useful much longer. According to an article on The Street which quotes a veteran airline analyst…
