40% Bonus on converting Bank points to Avios (with Qatar Airways)

Qatar Airways recently transitioned from QMiles to Avios as its currency, the same as British Airways and Iberia used as a part of their loyalty programmes. Now, they are offering an excellent bonus for those who transfer their points to Qatar Airways Privilege Club, which can also be helpful for those collecting the British Airways variant (since the Avios can be moved around in both directions).

Transfer bank points to QR Privilege Club with up to 40% Bonus

Between June 1-30, 2022, Qatar Airways Privilege Club is offering a tiered bonus when you convert bank points into Avios (in your Privilege Club account). The Tiered bonus is as follows:

  • Convert the equivalent of up to 20,000 Avios and receive a 20% bonus
  • Convert the equivalent of over 20,000 Avios and receive a 40% bonus

The transfer partners included in the conversion bonus are:

  • Ahli Bank Qatar
  • Ahli United Bank
  • Ahlibank Oman
  • Air Miles
  • American Express
  • Amex Centurion Design Cards by Hyundai Card (Korea)
  • Citibank
  • Commercial Bank of Qatar
  • Doha Bank
  • Dukhan Bank
  • Hana Members
  • HSBC (Greece, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Hong Kong)
  • Kuwait Finance House
  • Masraf Al Rayan
  • Ping An E-wallet (Wanlitong)
  • Qatar International Islamic Bank (QIIB)
  • Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB)
  • Qatar National Bank (QNB)
  • CIMB
  • KBank
  • Standard Chartered Bank Singapore
  • BSF (Banque Saudi Fransi)

Of these, for our Indian audience, the ones of note would be the American Express Membership Rewards and Citi Reward Points.

  • American Express Membership Rewards transfer to Qatar Airways Privilege Club at 2 MR = 1 Avios
  • Citi Prestige Points transfer to Qatar Airways Privilege Club at 1 point = 4 Avios
  • Citi PremierMiles transfer to Qatar Airways Privilege Club at 2 PremierMiles = 1 Avios

Do note that the bonus is offered by Qatar Airways, and it will take up to 45 days after the points are posted to your Qatar Airways Privilege Club Account. The bonus is calculated on a per-transaction basis, so you receive a 20% or 40% bonus based on how many points you transfer in one transaction, rather than cumulatively.

Set up a new Qatar Airways Privilege Club Account and get Avios

In case you haven’t already opened a Qatar Airways Privilege Club account, you can sign up for a new one using this link and receive 1000 points instantaneously in your QR account and 4,000 points on your first flight credited to Qatar Airways.

You can then connect your Qatar Airways and British Airways loyalty accounts, which will enable you to move around Avios from BA to QR and vice versa.

You can use this offer to indirectly convert Amex/Citi points to BA Avios, with a 40% bonus as well.

Bottomline

Qatar Airways Privilege Club is offering a 40% bonus when you convert bank points into Qatar Airways Avios. You can subsequently convert them to BA Avios as well using the transfer feature. This is an excellent opportunity for those with Citi/Amex points, and more so for those who are looking for an exit from their Citi Credit Cards after the impending departure of Citi from India.

Thank you for the referral link. But the 4k point bonus might not be applicable for me as they expect me to time-travel 😛

That’s not all, you will also receive 4,000 more Avios once you take your first flight with Qatar Airways as a Privilege Club member by 30 April 2022. Make sure to book online or using our mobile app.

  3. Looks like a great opportunity to transfer citi prestige points..
    Couple of points-
    1. BA Avios in BA account expire after 36 months.. but when you carry out a transaction of any nature like redemption, deposit etc . They get extended. What is the scenario for Avios in Qatar account?
    2. Any maximum limit for point transfer or on bonus?
    Thanks
