Late last month, I had first written about how Marriott Bonvoy was planning their first promotion for the year. They announced registration to be open, but in reality, registration is only now open.

The promotion called Marriott Double Take, is now open for registration, although valid for stays starting in a couple of weeks from now.

Marriott Double Take

Double Take is the first global promotion from Marriott Bonvoy after they changed names.

The promotion offers you double points on all your stays, starting with your second stay. The promotion kicks off for stays from March 19, 2019, onwards to June 4, 2019. This is a global promotion, and registration is required by May 21, 2019.

Given Marriott IT is involved, you may get an error when you try to register for the promotion. So it is best to log into your Marriott account and then take it forward.

Analysing the Marriott Double Take promotion

The Marriott Double Take promotion is offering you 2x the usual Marriott points on eligible hotel charges. Members usually earn 10 points per US Dollar spent at all brands except Element, Residence Inn and Towne Place Suites, where they earn 5 points per US Dollar spent.

That means, when you have the promotion applied, you end up earning 20 points per dollar spent on your account, starting from the second stay. Elite members earn even more bonus points.

• Gold Elite 25% bonus on base points
• Platinum Elite 50% bonus on base points
• Titanium Elite & Ambassador Elite 75% bonus on base points

If you pay with an American Express Platinum Card issued in India, you will also earn roughly about 5 Marriott points per dollar spent (Amex offers 3X Membership Rewards points on International Spends, and one Membership Rewards point is equal to one Marriott Rewards point). So, at the minimum, a road warrior is earning approximately 30 Marriott Bonvoy Points per US Dollar spent, assuming they are Platinum and pay with an Amex Platinum Charge Card. That makes the return pretty solid.
