IndiGo introduces Super 6E Fares

Airfares have been going through the roof, recently, given travel demand is strong at the moment. This has encouraged airlines to experiment even more with fares. IndiGo today launched the Super 6E fares, which sounds like an attempt to give all that the airline has to offer, in one big lump to the customers.

IndiGo’s Super 6E Fares

IndiGo’s new fare offering will be offered on the domestic network of IndiGo. The new “Super 6E” fare will include an extra 10kg baggage allowance, free seat selection including XL seat, meal / snack combo, priority check-in and priority baggage handling, anytime boarding, delayed and lost baggage protection service, no change fee and reduced cancellation fee, as well as no convenience fee.

As per IndiGo, the offer has been designed to provide the most sought-after services under a single fare who want to have all services bundled in single fare. Customers will be able to opt for Super 6E, only at the time of booking. This service is available on the IndiGo website currently and will be made available on other channels in phased manner. IndiGo states that these fares are dynamic.

The new fares are already live, and we took them for a spin for the purpose of this article. For instance, I tried booking a T+15 day ticket on Delhi – Mumbai. Tickets for 15 days later are going at INR 5849 for Saver fares, and INR 6007 for FlexiPlus fares.

Here are the Super 6E fares for the same flights. As you would note, the fares are INR 4200 more compared to the regular fare.

Does it make sense to pay more for the Super 6E Fares? Let us put the inclusions to a price:

  • Change Fee: INR 3500 or airfare difference, whichever is lower
  • 10kg baggage allowance: INR 4500
  • Free seat selection including XL seat, meal / snack combo, priority check-in and priority baggage handling, anytime boarding: INR 899 for most seats, INR 1399 for XL seats
  • Delayed and lost baggage protection service: INR 95
  • Convenience fee: INR 300 per sector

A lot of these facilities can be availed for just INR 500 more from the saver fare, by booking the flex fare family. The stipulated policy on flex fares is that they are offered at just INR 500 more, and with lots of inclusions. Take a look at this example below. The flex fare gets you a meal & standard seat and no change fees. a screenshot of a website

Does it make sense to buy the Super 6E fare?

To pay upto 4000 INR more per flight, makes sense if you are expecting to travel with 25 kg baggage, but nowhere else. Because even if you had to cancel the ticket for any reason at the last minute, you still come out ahead by paying INR 3000 or so for the cancellation. We tried out many route combinations, and this was our general observation.

Bottomline

IndiGo’s new Super 6E fares aim to provide you a bundle of all the IndiGo’s services, but at a larger inflated price compared to usual fares. The new fare will include an extra 10kg baggage allowance, free seat selection including XL seat, meal / snack combo, priority check-in and priority baggage handling, anytime boarding, delayed and lost baggage protection service, no change fee and reduced cancellation fee, as well as no convenience fee.

  1. I book all my tickets corporate so get all the perks without much of an extra cost apart from baggage allowance. No-no for me unless its the extra baggage.
