On May 3, 2023, Go First shut down operations and entered a voluntary insolvency application to the NCLT. This application was accepted on May 10, 2023. One of the processes that follow an NCLT application is the assessment of the complete set of debts the company owes, and these are usually made in a set format. This process has now been launched.

The airline’s administrator (Interim Resolution Professional) has invited everyone to who the company owes anything, such as the Banks, the Employees, the aircraft lessors, and everyone, to file a claim. The airline has issued a public notice to call for claims.

While the airline has been cancelling tickets (currently through May 23, 2023), they have been promising refunds which have yet to arrive. Now, it would be wise to apply to file for a claim to get your refund via the claims process (at least if you had to fly till May 10, 2023, when the airline was admitted into the process).

The airline’s IRP has launched a website to collect all such claims, which can be sent by May 24, 2023. The website is gofirstclaims.in/claims. Eventually, your name needs to be on a List of Creditors to which Go owed money. Once the list is finalised, the appropriate court will decide who gets how much money.

The claims process requires you to sign up on this website and fill out a claim form. You’ll need to upload at least one supporting document that shows your claim (this could be a copy of your ticket/cancellation). Only PDF documents are supported, at most 500 KB in size. Eventually, after filling up the entire form, you need to sign it before uploading.

During the times of Jet Airways, all ticket holders were classified as Operational Creditors (I had my claim accepted). Though there is no guidance from Go First about the form for tickets, I’m sure the same modus operandi should work here. Remember, you also need to send proof of the ticket with the document for verification.

Bottomline

Go First’s IRP has launched a process to assess all the names and put them on the list of creditors to the airline. If you had a ticket booked on Go First that the airline cancelled because of them grounding their operations, please make it a point to lodge your claims by May 24, 2023.
