Expanded India – UK Connectivity: Virgin to operate Mumbai/Delhi – Manchester and Vistara goes 7 days a week on Delhi – London Heathrow

The lure of the United Kingdom flights never ceases to amuse me. In spite of a pandemic, airlines are opening up flights on the sector and are getting seemingly good loads to try and get more slots and launch even more flights. In August 2020,  Vistara launched their Delhi – London Heathrow flights with a 4 times weekly frequency, offered to them on to operate special flights under the air bubble. SpiceJet has announced flights from December 2020, with a wet-lease plane. Virgin Atlantic got back into India with flights to London in September 2020. Now, there are more flights on their way.

Vistara to go Daily to London in December 2020

Vistara has increased frequency from the current 4x weekly to 5x weekly flights from November 21, 2020, further ramping up to 7x weekly or daily flights effective December 1, 2020.

The flights have also been retimed, effective October 25, 2020, with the westbound flight UK017 departing Delhi at 1345 hours and touching down in London at 1745 hours the same day. The return flight, UK018, will depart London at 2050 hours and arrive in Delhi at 1025 hours the following day.

After re-launching their flights to London Heathrow and Mumbai/Delhi, Virgin Atlantic is now set to launch connectivity between Manchester and Mumbai/Delhi. This route has been taken over from Jet Airways back in the day.

Mumbai to Manchester flights will start on December 20 and Delhi – Manchester connectivity will begin starting January 6, 2021.  These new services will go on sale on October 20 and will complement the airline’s existing services from Mumbai and Delhi to London Heathrow with the Boeing 787-9 aircraft of Virgin Atlantic. Flight numbers and timing have yet not been announced.

What do you make of the new heightened connectivity between India and the UK? I would personally like for Vistara to make more partnerships at Heathrow so that they can sell these fares as a part of other airline’s itineraries originating from India as well.

  1. Any guarantee that Vistara will be able to carry on daily flights for summer 2021. Their Heathrow slots are currently on a temporary basis.

    • @Dev, I believe that would be a question that would be presented to the authorities in a few weeks, and then they can decide if they want to renew the slots for one more season or not.
