Buy Amazon Gift Cards and Shopping Vouchers with HDFC Bank Cards without Convenience Fee

It is well known that HDFC Bank has now become very stringent about people minting the points they offer on Vouchagram (Gyftr). Most regular use categories now have a limit set for how much you can buy during a month, to prevent an industrial use case (in the industry, this is called a fair use clause). [Update: Patched]

HDFC Bank is offering Amazon Pay and Amazon Shopping vouchers without a convenience fee.

In a recent development, HDFC Bank credit cardholders utilising the SmartBuy platform have observed the absence of processing fees when purchasing Amazon vouchers through HDFC Bank’s PayZapp App. While a convenience fee is displayed on the Gyftr interface, it is not applied during the final payment process on PayZapp.

Typically, transactions involving Amazon vouchers via SmartBuy incur a processing fee of 3.5% plus GST. However, multiple users, including yours truly, have confirmed that despite the fee being shown during the initial stages of the transaction, the final amount charged did not include this fee. Remember, this is not for buying vouchers via the Gyftr Website through Smartbuy, but only for buying it through the Payzapp app.

Here is the screenshot that appears before the final screen.

The image is a screenshot of a payment interface from an app called PayZapp. It shows a transaction summary with the following details: - Value: ₹10,000 - You Pay: ₹10,000 - Quantity: 1 - Amount to Pay: ₹10,413 - Processing Fee: ₹413 (3.5% + GST on Amazon Shopping) - You Save: ₹1,035 There is a section for "Savings Breakup" with categories for savings via reward points, regular reward points, and bonus reward points. There is an option to calculate savings on a card or wallet and a field to enter a promo code with an "Apply" button. At the bottom, there is a blue button labeled "Pay ₹10,413".

After this, the final amount charged is INR 10,000. Unfortunately, I couldn’t capture a screenshot of that.

This unexpected waiver has led to speculation that it might be a temporary system glitch or an unannounced promotional offer. Either way, the risk in buying these vouchers via the PayZapp route is that you might end up having to pay the convenience fee later.

Bottomline

Suppose you are interested in buying Amazon Shopping Vouchers and Amazon Pay Gift Cards. In that case, they are being made available without a convenience fee if you use the Payzapp app for the moment. This will be a 4% or so saving, if you want. Act fast, since this could be closed anytime.

Are you going to buy Amazon Gift Cards and Amazon Shopping Vouchers via your Payzapp app then?

  1. Looks like a temporary system glitch, as when I bought, I was charged the convenience fee.
