IHG Rewards Club is currently running a sale where you can earn a bonus of up to 80% IHG Rewards Club points purchased until May 31, 2018.
Under this offer, the bonus points will kick in at two levels.
- Purchase a minimum of 5,000 points and get a 40% bonus
- Purchase a minimum of 20,000 points and get a full 80% bonus
Points can be purchased in multiples of 1,000s, and it will take up to 2 days for the points credit to reflect in your account.
On the face of it, this promotion doesn’t look very interesting when you compare it to 100% bonus they were offering last month. But there are a couple of new things this time around. Firstly, IHG Rewards Club has increased the maximum purchase limit from 60,000 points to 100,000 points and second, IHG has reduced the cost per point. For instance, if you max out this promotion and purchase 100,000 points, you’ll pay 1000 USD/ 65,000 INR for 180,000 IHG Rewards Club points. That brings down the cost per point to 0.56 US cents or INR 0.37. That’s good value when you compare it to the usual price of an IHG point which is INR 0.90.
IHG Rewards Club is one of the most extensive hotel loyalty programs by membership numbers with over 100 million members and has over 5,000 hotels in nearly 100 countries. The group currently has close to 30 hotels in India that are mostly mid-scale, though there is a reasonable footprint across Asia.
IHG points can come very handy if you are looking for redemption stays in Europe or USA or if you want to use them for PointBreaks where you can get a night for just 5,000 to 15,000 points. It is like picking up a hotel room for about $30 only.

I believe that buying points without having a redemption in mind are not a good idea. But the vacation season is coming up, and if you are planning a break, then it may be a good idea to top up your account now if you are planning to travel.

@Rahul Bansal All points will expire after 12 months if there’s no account activity. But it’s easy to maintain your points balance. Just earn or redeem once a year through any of our IHG hotels or partners.
So does it mean if i buy max points but not able to redeem them in full within 12 months but only partially , I will still have remaining points after 12 months.
