Reminder: Transfer your Axis Bank Credit Card Points; Process your Benefits Redemption before April 20, 2024

In March 2024, Axis Bank notified their credit card customers of large changes to their portfolio of benefits. If you missed the update, it was very simple: Axis Bank Credit Cards spread itself too thin on the costs of servicing the benefits of all their credit card products, and now they were scaling back. Now, they want to cut back and rationalise costs. So, many perks and benefits, such as Bookmyshow discounts, Meet & Assist services and Airport Transfers, are going away.

The second significant change is that the number of airmile conversions you can do in a year will be rationing. All the expensive miles and points issuers have been classified into a list, and there will be a very small amount of conversion possible with them going forward (20% of the overall limit). The cheaper issuers of miles and points get an 80% limit. Now, I don’t imagine you want to transfer your points into the programme of a failing carrier such as SpiceJet all year around.

Here is the quota being implemented per card as of April 20, 2024.

Here are the changes to their three significant cards: Atlas, Reserve and Magnus.

Transfer your points out by April 19, 2024.

As you can imagine, transferring your hard-earned points from Axis Bank Credit Cards will become very difficult after April 20, 2024. This is what I call a soft devaluation. The feature has not been removed in total, but you can no longer use it to its full capability. So, if you need miles for an urgent trip and are done with your quota of converting in group A, you are done for the year. So, while I don’t usually encourage people to do subjective transfers and conversions, this time, it’s different. You should ideally transfer out by the end of April 18, 2024 (India Standard Time), but April 19, 2024 should also do.

As for where to take the points out, I’m sure you’ve all done your research. But some good catch-all options are United Mileage Plus, Air Canada Aeroplan, or Japan Airlines for flights, and Accor Hotels for hotel transfers. The only reason for putting Accor in the mix is that it is easy for beginners to get straight Points to an INR value of 1 point = ~1.8 INR, which they might not do otherwise. And they have a good number of hotels outside of India in Europe.

Book your meet & assist + airport transfers by April 19, 2024.

Axis Bank is eliminating meet-and-assist services on the mid-end cards and reducing them on some high-end cards. So, if you have any pending meet-and-assist services and travel in the coming days (even months), feel free to book them now.

Bottomline

Axis Bank Credit Cards will change their credit card proposition on April 20, 2024. If you have their cards and intend to convert your points for future travels or use your due meet and assist services, go on and make all of it happen now. Your timeline is till the evening (IST) of April 19, 2024.

  1. 30k points/ 60k limit miles limit on Atlas is laughable. I do see it has a hard devaluation and forced to limit my spending on going hotels (for which I switched back to Citi Prestige)

  2. If one transfers x(more than 30k) points before the deadline, and then they accrue y points in the year, do they still get to transfer those y points, subject to the quota? Or is the quota exhausted when they transferred the x points?

  3. Do you know if miles transfers before 20/4 count towards the cap?
For example if I transfer 50k points from Atlas to Group A today, before the cap of 30k/yr comes into effect, would that mean post 20/4 I’m already capped for the rest of the CY? Or could I still do a further 30k later in the year?

  4. Hi Ajay
Any specific reason to transfer to Canada Aeroplan, or Japan Airlines for flights? D they give better value ?

I usually do only to SQ or United.
