American Express has been expanding the ambit of the card acceptance over time in India. They have started the year 2020 with a bang. After perhaps a successful 2019 with the Amex Insurance Payment offer, American Express has another one on offer for 2020. Here are the details of the Amex Insurance Offer for those payments coming up towards insurance this quarter.
Amex Insurance Offer: 10X Membership Rewards Points
To promote their reach in the insurance segment, there is a new Amex Insurance Offer, offering bonus Membership Rewards points and Intermiles for paying Insurance expenses on their proprietary Credit Cards, Jet Airways co-branded credit card and proprietary Charge Cards between January 17, 2020, and March 31, 2020. Only the following cards, issued in India, are eligible for this offer:
- American Express Platinum Card (10 MR/INR 100)
- American Express Gold Card (10 MR/INR 100)
- American Express Platinum Reserve Credit Card (10 MR/INR 100)
- American Express Platinum Travel Credit Card (Currently Free) (10 MR/INR 100)
- American Express Gold Credit Card / American Express SmartEarn Credit Card (10 MR/INR 100)
- American Express Membership Rewards Credit Card (Currently Free) (10 MR/INR 100)
- Jet Airways American Express Platinum Credit Card (16 InterMiles/INR 100)
The promotion seems to be targetted and wants cardmembers to enrol for the offer before making the payment. The interesting part is, Amex does not offer Membership Rewards points for insurance spends since 2014, but they will offer it this quarter. The minimum spend is 100 INR to get the offer. The maximum spends for the cards which earn 10 MR/INR 100 and hence this promotion seems to be capped at INR 50,000. For the InterMiles earning, the maximum InterMiles you can receive with the promotion is 3,000.
Membership Rewards points are being given under this offer and will not earn any regular points. After the offer ends, Cardmembers will stop getting any Membership Rewards Points on Insurance spends. The Bonus Membership Rewards Points will get credited to Cardmember’s account by June 30, 2020.
Bottomline
It is fantastic when you can earn miles for stuff that you are already going to have to do, such as paying insurance. But when you are going to get 10X points to do that, it is all the more reason to do so. Amex is out there to get members to get used to using their cards for more categories this year, and this seems just the start.
Which American Express Card are you going to use this quarter to pay for your insurance?
Is it just me or Amex has closed its email facility and is asking customers to call up customer care?

Could anyone who has got the mail from amex, post the link here??
It doesnot matter if you are targeted by Amex or not, if you have the link then you can register. Had tried it last year and it worked.
@Rohith J, any links posted here will be deleted. If there was a link to share with you, we would have posted it ourselves. Cheers.
My question is Not related to the above offer.
Amex MRCC have complimentary lounge access ?
If yes than please share how much and a link to that would be of great help.
@Kushal A MRCC Does not have complimentary lounge access
Hey could anyone post a link to the offer.
Thanks
@Prathamesh, if the offer is targetted to you check your email. No one can post the offer link here.
For redeeming the offer, Do I have to choose health insurance from. Amex portals or I can just pay by amex card. Can I buy insurance under these offer for my parents too.. thanks
@Apurva you first have to be targetted for the offer by Amex, then you can pay for any insurance in India after registering for the offer. Names are not a problem.
Ok thanks
How is it a 10x benefit?
Amex gives 2 mr points per 100 inr spends.. So this seems like a 5 x benefit
Seems 4x on play charge as default rate is 2.5 MR/100rs
@MT Amex does not give rewards on insurance. It is a 4 year old thing and I have written this there. Only wish you read the fine print before making up fictional numbers

This is a great offer! If I’m not wrong even NPS contributions are treated as insurance spends.
wow! didn’t realize that was possible!
No. I charged ₹@1.5L from my Amex and got regular rewards. Had it been insurance, I wouldn’t have got anything.
Is this offer applicable to only health insurances on amex portal or others also.
Two quick questions:
1. Is the limit per card or per person
2. Does the offer appear on the dashboard or targetted by e-mail?
TIA
hmm!! all my premiums are due in 3rd quarter
call your insurance co. they will be happy to have the premium in advance
Can you please help me understand which all insurance it covers? Car, health or all?
Because it’s not mentioned anywhere in the email or T&C.
Thanks
@Preyank Life, Health for sure, Not sure about others. I imagine as long as it is an insurance company from India, you get the points.
Cant see such offer on site
@Vishnu because it is not for everyone
