American Express has launched today a fantastic, 3-day only promotion for select cardmembers, which is offering up to 20,000 Membership Rewards points for those who have received these offers.

The new promotion offers these select cardmembers, who should have directly heard from American Express, anywhere between 2,000 – 20,000 bonus Membership Rewards points, after doing a certain amount of spending over the weekend. Here are the three variants that have been rolled out on various credit and charge cards of American Express:

• On the American Express Platinum Charge Card
  • Get 20,000 Bonus points on spending INR 50,000.
  • Get 5,000 Bonus points on spending INR 20,000.
  • Get 2,000 Bonus points on spending INR 10,000.
• On the American Express Membership Rewards Credit Card, American Express Platinum Travel Credit Card and other cards:
  • Get 4,000 Bonus points on spending INR 20,000
  • Get 2,000 Bonus points on spending INR 10,000
  • Get 1,000 Bonus points on spending INR 5,000

Bonus Membership Rewards Points will be credited to the Cardmember’s account by February 28, 2021. Spends on the Supplementary Card(s) will be accounted under the Basic Card only.

These spend based offers are just based on the amount spend and there are no category minimums or maximums here as per the terms and conditions. So, you could spend money swiping your card at your favourite Sunday Brunch, or you could double dip under the Shop Small offer, or you could buy something off Amazon, it all counts.  As an aside, many people have also received a time-limited offer of INR 2,000 off on a minimum of INR 20,000 spent on Amazon this weekend,

As a reminder, there is no way to figure out how did these offers get rolled out, so no point trying to tax your brain on it. For instance, Shipra got two offers on her MRCC as well as Platinum Charge Card, and I drew nothing.

Bottomline

This is another time where American Express is stealing the march on its competition, offering the opportunity to cardmembers to get more returns on their spends during the pandemic. If you have any spends planned and you think you can move them up in to November 2020, maybe it is an idea worth exploring if you got targetted for the offer.
