AirAsia launches new PPE for its cabin crew

AirAsia becomes the second airline, behind Philippines Airlines, to adopt Protective Personal Equipment (PPE) as a standard for their crew.

AirAsia launches new PPE for crew

AirAsia has launched a new range of Private Protective Equipment, designed by Filipino designer Puey Quiñones. As with everything the airline does, the new PPE are also in their signature red-hot colour and are made of breathable yet sturdy material, per AirAsia. Like you can see, the equipment covers head to toe, and has a visor as well on top of the mask to make sure the full face is covered up.

The PPE suits were launched last Friday (April 24, 2020) during a recovery flight from Bangkok to Manila and have been approved by the Philippines’ Department of Health. Flight attendants will be required to wear the PPE on all of the carrier’s domestic and international flights rescue flights operated by AirAsia. Here is a picture of these suits in action on board.

On April 17, AirAsia announced it is set to resume scheduled domestic flights commencing with Malaysia on Wednesday (April 29), followed by Thailand on Friday (May 1), India (May 4), Indonesia (May 7) and the Philippines (May 16), subject to approval from authorities.

Bottomline

While PPE will not be the endgame for aviation, they will certainly be around for a while after aviation opens up again. What would be interesting to figure would be if other airlines will follow into branded PPE, or just use generic PPE. They could also stop at just asking the crew to wear a mask. Oh well.
