Air India redemptions at 40% off on weekdays

While Air India Flying Returns has been getting a lot of heat past few weeks due to the sudden restructuring of their program, they just gave a sweetener to all their members to perhaps soften the blow.

Between March 14, 2016 to April 28, 2016 you can redeem flights on Air India network (domestic and international), for a 40% discount on the number of miles required, as long as you are travelling on a weekday (Monday – Thursday). This promotion makes travel very cheap on miles in case you are able to make plans to travel on a weekday. Here are some illustrations Air India shares:

The discount is valid on all classes of travel, and makes it easy to redeem for premium cabins at a large discount. For instance, a BOM-EWR first class which usually goes for 200K miles one way between BOM-EWR, is now available at 120K Air India miles.

Since the new redemption structure was put in place, there is no requirement to pay fuel surcharges, and all you are supposed to pay is airport taxes and other charges.

You can only redeem these points on AI flights, and not on codeshares or other partner airlines for Star Alliance flights. Additionally, the discount is valid only for travel between March 14, 2016 to April 28, 2016 for travel on Monday – Thursday. Tickets have become as cheap as 3,000 Air India Flying Returns miles.

Bottomline

This is a great promotion from Air India and if you can make it work for yourself or your family, you should.

  1. Sweet. I have 2 return trips on the Del Blr Sector till mid April. I checked the US sectors for late April but it shows only 1st class availability for most days

  2. Used it for Blr-DXB return trip.
but Air India website is so bad, that just to verify that I got the discounted rate; i had to logout and go to redeem miles page to find out, what was original miles required.
no where in redeem page, they mention about the % saving. they just show the discounted rate.
