Air India brings Premium Economy to the Delhi – San Francisco – Delhi rotation

One of the first stopgap measures Air India made in early 2022 was to sign up on lease five Boeing 777-200LR aircraft from Delta, fitted with the Delta One business class suite. Delta had already decided to convert them to freighters, accordingly disposed of from the Delta mainline fleet.

Air India to now bring the ex-Delta product to their Delhi – San Francisco routing 3x weekly.

Currently, Air India has already inducted the five 777-200LR that were due to be inducted, and these serve the following routes for Air India:

  • Mumbai – San Francisco and return as AI179/AI180 (4 times weekly)
  • Mumbai – New York JFK and return as AI119/AI116 (Daily)
  • Bengaluru – San Francisco and return as AI175/AI176 (3 times weekly)

Now, Air India can add another frequency to the ex-Delta 777LR product on the Delhi – San Francisco routing. Air India operates two flights on the Delhi – San Francisco – Delhi route, one daily (AI 173/AI 174) and the other (AI 183/AI 184) four times a week. Air India will put the new(er) product on the AI 183/AI 184) rotation effective October 17, 2023.

Tickets are already on sale on the Air India website.

While I still haven’t flown this product, I’ve only heard good things about it from people who have flown it. This is how it looks.

Bottomline

Air India will operate the Boeing 777-200LR it inducted from Delta Air Lines on one of the two frequencies to San Francisco in the coming days, effective October 17, 2023. This should be a much more comfortable option for customers across the board of Air India compared to the older AI 772 Product.

What do you think of the new transition to the Delta product for Air India?
