6 Indian airports trialing non-stamping of baggage

Last year, many major Indian airports underwent the trial to stop the stamping of hand baggage tags. This is an archaic practice and aviation security across the world has gotten stronger on the back of new inputs. This year in February, it was notified that these airports no longer need to stamp the bags after them being x-rayed. In reality however, this kicked in only at the beginning of April 2017.

Now, 59 airports across the country need to get this same system going, however the CISF which is responsible for providing security at these airports, still needs to make system and workflow adjustments to ensure they are not giving up on securing the holding area by giving up this practice. A week long trial is underway at the following airports, which will conclude on April 30, 2017.

  • Chennai
  • Patna
  • Guwahati
  • Thiruvananthapuram
  • Jaipur
  • Lucknow

The procedures are at the moment for Domestic passengers only, and internationally travelling passengers still need to get their bags stamped!

Are you passing through any of these airports in the current week? Do tell us if you note a difference in the time taken to get you going.
