Vistara free ticket vouchers now valid for up to 9 months (with a twist)

Vistara, in tie-up with Axis Bank and SBI Cards, has been issuing free ticket vouchers for cardmembers of the co-brand credit cards since 2016. These vouchers are issued for Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy Class on various spend milestones on the applicable credit card since the launch of the first credit card between Axis Bank and Vistara.

Each of these vouchers used to be valid for six months, during which one can use these vouchers on a single sector available for redemption with Club Vistara points. Vistara has been working on improving their IT during the times of the pandemic. Last year, they introduced the capability to redeem vouchers on the Vistara website rather than a call to redeem these vouchers.

The voucher issuance has not worked to everyone’s benefit; however, customers who don’t plan to travel during CoVid-19 times having to forego their vouchers many times. Now, it seems Vistara is trying to solve that problem to an extent.

Vistara On-demand Voucher Generation

Vistara has launched a new feature called “on-demand voucher generation, ” enabling eligible customers to issue a voucher at their convenience. Once you are eligible to receive a voucher, let’s say due to a new co-credit card issued in your name, you will get an email informing you that you can generate the voucher for the complimentary ticket anytime.

Thereon, you can go to this section and generate a voucher anytime you want within six months. Once you issue the voucher, you have a three-month validity of the voucher, where you have to use it. If you don’t issue the voucher within six months, it will be automatically issued for you at the end of six months.

The net effect of this whole move is that one can get a voucher with a validity of nine months, and it beats me why instead of all of this, they could not extend the voucher validity for nine months altogether. Is there anything I am missing?

Only if the ability to apply upgrades on already booked tickets is the next on the IT Team’s agenda at Vistara.

Bottomline

Those who receive Vistara free-ticket vouchers will now generate the voucher on demand and hence get a voucher issued for three months. This means, if you issue the voucher on the last day of eligibility, you can have a voucher valid for nine months.

What do you think of this new technique to generate vouchers on-demand?

  1. @sachin motwani – in any such case where Vistara starts hiding behind rules and SOPs, just drop a mail marking Vistara CEO, Axis Bank CEO with your concern. It automatically gets escalated. Got 2 business class vouchers’ validity extended last year using this.

  2. I lost 3 business class one way vouchers due to the pandemic and Vistara team just wouldn’t budge . That too last year April May when they were not even flying ‍♂️
