Part of flying like a pro is to skip checking-in bags and travel light with just carry-on bags. Now Vistara has enabled a new feature called Carry-on plus, where you can carry up to 12 kilograms as carry-on luggage.

The usual cabin baggage allowance in economy class across airlines in India stands at 7 kilograms. With Vistara Carry-on Plus, you can bump up your carry-on allowance to 12 kilograms for a fee. You pay INR 250 for every additional KG. You can add up to five kilos if you are flying economy and two kilos if you fly premium economy. Do note that the dimensions of your carry-on bag remain the same as prescribed by the airline. Also, you cannot carry an additional bag just because of these enhances limits.

If you are a Club Vistara elite, you don’t need to worry about any extra fees. Carry-on plus is available for Club Vistara Gold and Platinum members, free of charge. So your carry on allowance is effectively increased to 12 kilograms. And remember, the weight of your laptop, book or jacket do not count.

Some of the key terms and conditions of this scheme include:

• This service is valid on routes for all Vistara direct flights (except flights originating from Jammu, Leh and Srinagar)
• Carry-on Plus needs to be purchased for each sector separately.
• The Service is applicable for booked customers only and is non-transferable/non-refundable.
• Carry-On Plus service is not applicable for passengers booking under Economy Lite.

Bottomline

Airlines in India today are going the extra miles to increase ancillary revenues in these tough times. While some like IndiGo are nickel and diming, Vistara has chosen to give even more options to flyers. Frequent flyers who don’t usually check-in bags would benefit the most which in turn should help Vistara dig an even deeper moat around its customer base.
