Thailand is now open for Tourists (originating from over 60 countries, including India)

Thailand has been one of the biggest affected countries in the Covid-19 pandemic, given their economy depends a lot on tourists coming into the country. So, after almost 19 months, Thailand has opened up to tourists effective November 1, 2021, onwards. Here are the details of all you need to know about how can anyone now travel into Thailand as long as they arrive from the soil of 63 countries listed below.

Thailand opens up to fully-vaccinated travellers from 63 countries

Effective November 1, 2021, Thailand has opened up to fully-vaccinated travellers from over 60 countries. Now that this plan is live, you can arrive in Thailand as long as you have spent the past 21 days in one of these countries (not related to your passport/citizenship).

The following countries have been white-listed, if I may use the term. This includes 17 more low-risk countries after the initial announcement:

  • Australia
  • Austria
  • Bahrain
  • Belgium
  • Bhutan
  • Brunei
  • Bulgaria
  • Cambodia
  • Canada
  • Chile
  • China
  • Croatia
  • Cyprus
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Estonia
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Hong Kong
  • Hungary
  • Iceland
  • India
  • Indonesia
  • Ireland
  • Israel
  • Italy
  • Japan
  • Kuwait
  • Laos
  • Latvia
  • Lithuania
  • Luxembourg
  • Malaysia
  • Maldives
  • Malta
  • Mongolia
  • Myanmar
  • Nepal
  • Netherlands
  • New Zealand
  • Norway
  • Oman
  • Philippines
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Qatar
  • Romania
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Singapore
  • Slovak Republic
  • Slovenia
  • South Korea
  • Spain
  • Sri Lanka
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • Taiwan
  • United Arab Emirates
  • United Kingdom
  • United States of America

At the time of writing, the following vaccines are approved by Thailand:

  • CoronaVac
  • AstraZeneca/Covishield
  • Pfizer–BioNTech or Comirnaty
  • Janssen or Janssen/Ad26.COV2.S
  • Moderna
  • Sinopharm
  • Sputnik V

However, even with the vaccination, people will need a pre-departure and a post-arrival RT-PCR test and need to stay in quarantine for one night while the results come back.

Visitors need to apply for and receive the Thailand Pass.

The Thailand Pass is Thailand’s pre-approval system for vaccinated travellers. If you are vaccinated, you need to apply for a Thailand Pass QR Code and receive approval for your vaccination certification. You can apply here. Other documents you will need to present include your confirmed booking of one night at an approved facility, plus payment for the RT-PCR test. Alongside, an insurance policy with coverage of at least USD 50,000 will be required as well.

You need to present a negative RT-PCR test within 72 hours of your departure. On arrival in Thailand, you will need to present your QR code for being immigrated into Thailand. From there, you will need to get another test done, which will indicate your safety status on arrival. While you await this test, you need to stay one night at an approved facility (essentially quarantine). If you are in Thailand long enough, you will be given another self-testing kit for testing on Day 6-7, the results of which will have to be uploaded in an app for Thailand.

While this looks like a lot of work, it sounds like a fair deal between free travel and testing requirements. Vaccines will become the norm in the future for international travel, more or less. The only extra leg, for now, is that Thailand asks for the people arriving to stay a night at an approved facility and get tested on arrival again.

Bottomline

The world is progressively opening up, and Thailand is joining them. Effective November 1, 2021, as long as you have spent the past 21 days in one of the above mentioned 63 countries and are vaccinated, you will be eligible to travel to Thailand with a negative test before travel and testing on arrival.

    • Correct, Thailand is trying to act smart by creating sooo many hassle for lndians, so avoid and don’t miss much.

  1. Papers, please. Quarantine. Test(s) 72 hours beforehand. Tests once again upon arrival. Mask mandates. Limits. Places closed. Attractions shuttered.

Still about 5 years to go before mania subsides.
