Taj InnerCircle is subsumed into Tata Neu

The Tata Group has been long working on their superapp, which they call Tata Neu. The intention has been to bring any possible customer facing brands of the conglomerate into one big platform, and provide for the earn and burn of common points across all their B2C brands. The initial brands to be onboarded are AirAsia India, Taj Hotels, 1MG, Big Basket, Tata Cliq and Croma.

In March 2022, we had reported about how you would be able to cross-utilise your points across all the brands. In fact, I did use some of the points earned in Taj InnerCircle for a purchase at Croma using the Tata Neu app.

Taj Inner Circle has fully migrated to Tata Neu

Many folks should have spotted this screen trying to log into InnerCircle over the past few days.

The screen is gone today, but something has also changed. Taj InnerCircle has been subsumed into Tata Neu for good. So, if you head to tajinnercircle.com, or try logging in via tajhotels.com, you will see this message now.

The loyalty programme’s bones were changed in 2015 and have largely remained the same since then, apart from cosmetic changes here and there. But this move just took the liability of earning and burning points from the books of IHCL, the hotel company to Tata Digital, the company that owns the loyalty programme. That means, as we said earlier, that InnerCircle members will be able to earn points for their stays and use them, for instance, to buy groceries or medicines. The converse is also true, that they will be able to earn points for buying groceries at BigBasket and then use them for a home delivered meal using the QMin App.

One thing of note is the shifted goalpost wrt the expiry of your Taj InnerCircle points, aka, NeuCoins here on. Your NeuCoins expire 365 days after your last transaction involving an eligible earn or use of NeuCoins (even if it’s just one NeuCoin earned or used).

To access your existing points, all you need to do is to download the Neu App, and register with the same phone number you have registered in your TIC account.

Eligible spends to earn Neu Coins at IHCL Hotels

“Eligible spends” or “Eligible charges” are spends made by you on eligible room rates, room charges, food and beverages (restaurants, bars, room service and mini-bars), telecommunication, laundry, spa, cake shop, business centre services and purchases at the Taj Khazana chain of stores.

They don’t include:

  1. Room charges that are included in the definition of ineligible rates:
    1. Room rates where booking is made via any online booking channels including but not limited to Expedia.com, Travelocity.com, Hotels.com, Booking.com, Tripadvisor.com, MakemyTrip.com, Travelguru.com or any other similar travel websites or a third party.
    2. Room rates that are booked, or booked and paid, via tour operators, wholesalers and travel agents on their contracted rates or any other travel-industry staff rates.
    3.  Room rates for group bookings, conferences, weddings, events or organised tours
    4. Room rates for airline staff and crew where rooms are pre-booked and paid for by the airline directly
    5. Employee rates or any complimentary rooms
    6. IHCL’s Friends & Family Rate
  2. Charges for banquets, parties, meetings, weddings, events and other similar functions
  3. Rooms booked as office space
  4. Charges for Business Centre facilities used by non-resident member guests
  5. Complimentary services
  6. Any charges which are settled using Taj Experiences Gift Cards or NeuCoins
  7. Charges for food and beverages (including those associated with parties/ social gatherings hosted at restaurants and bars) which are discounted/special menu/ packages/ others which are not as per the printed menu of the restaurant/ bar/ cake shop, orders via Qmin, unless stated otherwise
  8. Charges for car hire/ salon/ shopping arcade/ fitness centre/ chartered flights/ Taj Air, pay outs, tips, taxes, etc.
  9. Charges (even if charged to members’ room) for non-affiliated hotel entities which are not owned and/or operated by the hotel including, but not limited to, outlets such as travel bookings, gift shop, drugstore, clothes, gallery, or specialty stores, recreational or entertainment concessions.

Bottomline

From here on, Taj InnerCircle will refer to their points as NeuCoins instead of TIC points, and Taj InnerCircle will no longer exist as a standalone programme, instead being integrated into NeuPass.

What do you make of the new move from IHCL to integrate with TataNeu?
