Spicejet changes policy for international connections, limits baggage allowance

The one true reason for international flyers to arrive at a major airport in India like BOM, DEL, CCU etc. and to fly to their eventual destination on SpiceJet all this while was that SpiceJet provided a liberal allowance to international travellers into India/ departing from India to carry their full baggage allowance (as designated by the international carrier) provided they had their connection within 24 hours. This excluded any baggage allowance for elite status. Here is what the Terms of Carriage used to state: Guests connecting to / from any international destination to SpiceJet for domestic travel within 24 Hours are entitled to free baggage allowance as permitted by the international carrier, subject to the allowance being specified on…

Two promos: Mumbai–Bangkok for INR 14K and Spicejet discounts

Jet Airways is offering a special fare on the Mumbai – Bangkok – Mumbai segment for those willing to book up 21 days in advance. Have a look at the all inclusive fare, which starts from INR 14K and goes upto INR 16K for booking 21 days to 7 days ahead. Considering Bangkok is a vacation destination for most, this should be doable, no? In the past, Jet Airways used to outprice Thai Airways and Cathay Pacific on this route, in spite of the fact that their capacity was lesser (they fly a Boeing 737 compared to the A330/B777 configurations of Thai and Cathay). It seems they’ve now expressed intention to be in the game rather than out of the…

Investments in Indian airlines are a go, Kingfisher might be saved!

Coming, not coming, coming, not! Finally, airlines in India are going to get the lifeline they were hoping for a long time. The Government of India finally took the measure to allow Indian scheduled carriers (Air India, Jet Airways, Kingfisher Airlines, GoAir, Indigo, SpiceJet) to seek foreign equity infusion upto 49% of their equity capital from foreign airlines. Here is what the presser from the Government of India says: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the proposal of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion for permitting foreign airlines to make foreign investment, up to 49 percent in scheduled and non-scheduled air transport services. Removing the existing restriction on investment by foreign airlines would assist in bringing in…

SpiceJet monsoon discounts are back (again)

It seems like QR codes and deal-of-the-day works really well for SpiceJet. They have held two fare-sales this year already, and the second one was as recent as July. They are back this morning with another round of promotions, where they publish a discount code on their website every day, valid for making reservations on the website till 12 Midnight IST on the same day.  The rules remain the same as the previous promotion and I would direct you to the earlier post for the directions to use the promotion. These discounts are valid for domestic as well as international reservations. As of this moment, there is no end date to this promotion but they usually last a week. If…

SpiceJet offering discounts on online bookings

SpiceJet seems to be making a habit of offering discounts on their website SpiceJet.com. In March 2012, they were offering deal-of-the-day discounts on their website, publishing a new QR code on the site everyday for a different discount code. They further tried another way of discounting by asking for your handphone number in April 2012. However, the deal-a-day code is back now for an undisclosed time period on the SpiceJet website again. On 10th July 2012 they launched the Monsoon Hungama promotion. Discounts offered are per person/per way basis, so you get a fixed amount off on every sector you are booking for each passenger. What’s more, the discount is valid on the SpiceJet international network as well, including the…

Sunday Plastic: SpiceJet SBI Titanium Credit Card

Quite a few exciting credit cards are coming out for the travel-oriented and I am having quite a bit of a job on hand to keep up to speed. Spicejet, India’s second biggest low-cost airline after Indigo, has had a tie-up for a credit card with SBI for a while. About 10 days back they re-launched the card with a suite of benefits that make it look exciting now, and I am considering applying for one now. While I have reviewed the Amex Gold Charge Card and Citibank Premier Miles Credit Card in the past, this is the first time I am reviewing an airline co-branded credit card, perhaps the only Indian airline co-branded card on the market right now…

Spicejet inaugural fares from Delhi and Mumbai to Dubai for Rs. 7777 + taxes

Spicejet seems to be obsessed with the number 7 these days. They recently offered a fare sale of Rs. 777 + taxes on domestic segments. Now, Spicejet is launching its flights to Dubai on 25th June 2012 from Mumbai and Delhi and is offering introductory fares on spicejet.com of Rs. 7777/- + taxes from either cities to Dubai. To celebrate this launch, SpiceJet is offering introductory airfares starting from just Rs.4477 (plus government taxes) one way, on the 2 routes connecting Dubai with Delhi and Mumbai, which will be a limited seat offer on online bookings. SpiceJet will fly Boeing 737-800s on these sectors. I would have loved to be on the inaugural flight, I’ve never been on a flight…
