Starwood Hotels has just received and agreed to a new takeover bid by Marriott hotels, which outbids the chinese and essentially, takes them inside the door.

Marriott Rewards announced overnight the changes they are making to hotel categories for the year 2016. These changes will be in effect from March 24, 2016. This change largely impacts the US where over 650 hotels will see a category change.

Marriott Hotels is entering a transaction to acquire competitor Starwood Hotels & Resorts. Transaction expected to complete by Mid-2016. Post transaction, Marriott will have 30 brands, 1.1 million rooms and will be the largest hotel management co. in the world.

We spend a leisurely weekend in the hills at the JW Marriott Resort & Spa in Mussoorie. This is a beautiful resort that has two great things about them; First, they managed to build a great team with a majority of staff being local. Second, their focus on the local economy. Local cooks were hired on a part time basis to bring local flavors to the cuisine.
This is a hotel I’d love coming back to, more than once. And I hope they keep their standar
