Delta offering $830 fares from Boston to Mumbai R.T.

I usually do not put the individual route fare sales on this blog, but this one was too good to pass up, especially since this blog tries to focus on India-related aviation deals as well. Delta has a Boston-Amsterdam-Mumbai roundtrip fare, and also a Boston-Paris-Mumbai roundtrip fare which is going in the $830-$870 range, which is way less than the usual fare on this route which goes at $1100 upwards. Here is a screenshot of fares from the Matrix website. Various dates are available for various number of nights.                 As per The Flight Deal website, which first posted the deal, says the deal is valid for travel from March 10th – May…

Delta Airlines to discontinue partnership with Jet Airways

And Kingfisher Airlines as well, but that is not so important! Buddies in crime for a while, Delta Airlines is terminating its frequent flyer partnership with Jet Airways from 15th October 2012 as per an announcement put out on the Delta Skymiles website. While Jet and Delta both have had a reputation of their own as good airlines, both have had one big problem area where they could give each other a good fight, the worse redemption capabilities ever. This is where the parallels have been drawn all this while. According to this thread on FT, Delta fired Jet Airways because Jet had even more restrictive rules than them on redeeming rewards. I am sure they could not take that…

Delta/Amex offer Status Match and $ 200 Gift Card for US Readers (till January 31, 2012)

This was more a chance discovery but I thought it was in the best interest of everyone to know. American Express and Delta have come up with a wonderful offer, although targetted, which provides a very easy way to get Delta status all the way upto Feb 2013 with one round trip flight till Jan 2012. All you have to do, is to register an eligible American Express Card on this website, pop-in your non-status Delta Skymiles number, book a round-trip on Delta which is not in the fare classes R/O/N/E, and you’ll be eligibile for a $200 Gift Card from Amex. Also, if you have elite status on another carrier, which was at least valid till December 2012, you’ll…

If it ain’t broken, still fix it with @DeltaAssist

I blogged recently about my trashy experience with Delta on my last flight with them here. The crux of the issue on hand was that I complied with their guidelines, and the outdated Delta IT systems did not pick up my Flying Blue status and honour the priveleges. After the flight, I tweeted this to @DeltaAssist. I had asked them to fix this beforehand but I guess I got on with the wrong agent who did not fix the problem. The agents at Delta sent me a direct message back on Twitter asking me for my ticket details and the problem. After a brief conversation on these direct messages, they accepted that they had made a mistake and offered to refund…

10,500 miles away: slightly underwhelming Jet Airways Business class and upto mark Delta customer service!

On my recent travels to SEA, I chose to take the following routing BOM-BRU-JFK on Jet Airways Premiere and JFK-CVG-SEA on Delta Coach. So, if you want to really kill a good 18 hour flying experience, you get onto coach, specially that of Delta to meet some (un)grateful customer service agents to start with. I flew BOM-BRU on 9w228 and BRU-JFK on 9w226. The flights were overall good but there were minor irritants that I found. For example, on the BOM-BRU sector the meal service was rushed, and on BRU-JFK the in-flight power just would not work. So, this was not the best Jet Airways experience I had, but still much better than so many others! Here are some pictures…

Upcoming: Transatlantic travels, 36 hours and 10,500 miles over 3 continents!

BOM-BRU-JFK-CVG-SEA-JFK-BRU-BOM

So the much needed vacation is coming closer to take off date. End of this week, I fly over to the United States for a 3 week holiday, which will also give me a lot of time to post on topics I have on my mind. I am taking Jet Airways Premiere to travel to JFK via BRU (2 hours layover) and after a brief layover on Delta to Seattle (SEA) via Cincinnati(CVG), in Coach (yeah!). I have been on 9W to BRU several times from India, using it as an alternative to go to AMS on Delta. The experience has been good, in Coach as well as in their Business class (Premiere). The hard product and the soft product…
