Late last night (or more accurately, in the early hours of April 26, 2026), an incident unfolded at Indira Gandhi International Airport when a Zurich-bound SWISS flight rejected takeoff at high speed, triggering a full-scale emergency response on the runway.
What Happened?
SWISS flight LX147, operated by an Airbus A330-300 registered as HB-JHK, was scheduled to depart Delhi for Zurich shortly after 1 AM. The aircraft, carrying over 230 passengers, including infants, had already begun its takeoff roll on Runway 28 when the crew determined that Engine Number 1 had failed on the Takeoff roll and aborted takeoff.
Reports indicate that the issue quickly escalated to a fire warning or visible smoke. The aircraft was brought to a stop on the runway, and a full emergency was declared at Delhi Airport.
Emergency Evacuation On The Runway
Following the rejected takeoff, the crew initiated an emergency evacuation. Passengers were evacuated via slides. During the evacuation, six passengers sustained injuries, primarily during the slide deployment process, and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
While there are no reports of life-threatening injuries, the incident underscores how even controlled evacuations can lead to minor injuries, especially in high-stress situations.
What was unfortunate, however, was that people brought their belongings, which is not advisable during an evacuation.

The runway is currently closed for operations.
Bottomline
SWISS LX147, operated by an Airbus A330-300, experienced an aborted takeoff last night at Delhi Airport, and an emergency evacuation was conducted for all passengers. While some passengers got injuries and had to be taken to the hospital, everyone else is safe. Runway 28/10 is currently closed for operations, with the airport operating on three active runways.
What do you make of the people leaving with their goods on an emergency evacuation, yet again?
