Status Match Opportunity: CitizenM Hotels’ CitizenM+

While most hotel and airline status is points-based, there come hotel chains once in a while that can do things differently. CitizenM Hotels is one of them. The chain intends to offer affordable luxury and a hybrid hotel model where you can work and relax at affordable prices.

The chain started with its first hotel in Amsterdam in 2008, and since then has established a presence with 37 hotels across Europe, The US, and now Asia. More are coming soon.

CitizenM’s loyalty programme: CitizenM+

In 2022, CitizenM launched CitizenM+, a perks-based loyalty programme instead of a points-based one, which means you can participate at any time rather than going over the status cycle yearly. Also, it is a paid programme, so you pay a small monthly fee of USD 12 (approximately INR 1000) to participate.

The programme intends to bring you many benefits in exchange for the sign-up for the membership to CitizenM+. These include:

  • 15% off of all stays
  • free late check-out & premium view (based on availability)
  • guaranteed room (48 hrs notice)
  • 10% off food and drink (excluding breakfast)

That 15% off and free late check-out more than covers the participation fee, whether you use the hotel once a month or three times a year.

CitizenM+ Status Match offer

That USD 12 fee (USD 144 per annum) is currently being crunched into a USD 39.95 processing fee for a year if you have a status with any hotel chain or airline programme for a limited time. When approved for the status match, which happens within two days, you are sent a code which will enable you to zero out the CitizenM+ programme’s fee for an entire year, with only 28% of what it costs annually and a cost that can be covered within the first stay itself with the 15% discount offered to Citizen M+ members.

All you need to do is head to the CitizenM+ Status Match microsite, which is offered through the Loyalty Status Co. To be eligible, you must create a free mycitizenM account at citizenm.com.

There is literally every status under the sun being made available for this status match, including, for instance, Club Vistara, which is very useful in India. a screenshot of a web page

After that, you upload your status credentials to demonstrate that you hold the status you claim to have.

Finally, you pay the USD 39.95 and wait for your status match to be approved.

As you can see, one night in Paris, you approximately make up the fee via the difference itself. The savings are a bonus for the rest of the 364 days.

Bottomline

MycitizenM+ is a different take on hotel status, where you pay to participate in the programme, but you get perks such as late checkout, upgrades and guaranteed discounts on every stay. For a short while, the chain is offering a status match for a year, where any other hotel’s or airline’s status will get you the CitizenM+ status for a year at a reduced price, which is just the processing fee.
