SAS to return to India in June 2026

SAS, the Scandinavian carrier that recently transitioned from Star Alliance to SkyTeam, will relaunch operations to India after 17 years. The airline which operated between Delhi and Copenhagen during 2007-2009, is now going to serve Mumbai.

SAS returns to India with Mumbai Service

SAS will launch a new year-round route between Copenhagen and Mumbai in June 2026. The route strengthens ties between India and Scandinavia, with smooth transfers to Europe and North America. The airline might have opted for Mumbai over Delhi, because Delhi is already served by Air India on the non-stop route with a Boeing 787-8 service.

Starting June 2, 2026, SAS will operate five weekly flights with an Airbus A330, offering nonstop service between Scandinavia and India’s financial capital. The timings are going to be as follows:

CPH-BOM SK969 13:10 01:30 (+1) 333 x13
BOM-CPH SK970 06:00 11:45 333 x24

The flights are already on sale. Flight times are designed to support smooth transfers to and from major destinations in Scandinavia, Europe, and North America — including New York, Boston, and Toronto — offering very good connecting times for travelers heading to or from India.

On the occassion of announcing the new flight, Anko van der Werff, President & CEO of SAS, said,

India is a key global market — both in terms of growing demand and economic importance. With this new route, SAS contributes to strengthening Copenhagen’s role as a global hub while supporting increased connectivity between India and Northern Europe, as well as between India and North America. Mumbai is a natural next step in our strategy to link Scandinavia with one of the world’s most important regions for business and leisure travel.

SAS might also join hands with IndiGo, which will also plan to launch flights to Copenhagen this year, most probably from Mumbai itself.

Redemption seats will be available. On Virgin Flying Club, the airline will be available for redemption at:

  • Economy Class: 20,500 miles
  • Premium Economy: 37,500 miles
  • Business Class: 60,000 miles

Bottomline

SAS, the Scandinavian carrier, is returning to India and planning to launch flights between Copenhagen and Mumbai on June 2, 2026. The airline will operate five times weekly between the two cities, and provide options to fly between India and North America as well via CPH. The airline might also make a tieup with IndiGo who will also launch Copenhagen flights shortly.
