Riyadh Air’s transformation from an ambitious startup to an operational airline is progressing rapidly. Within days of receiving its first two factory-built Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, Saudi Arabia’s newest full-service carrier has welcomed a third Boeing 787 into its fleet, advanced preparations for its London launch, and revealed more details about the onboard experience passengers can expect when commercial operations commence.
The developments come at a crucial stage for the airline, which is expected to begin scheduled passenger services between Riyadh and London Heathrow in the coming weeks, before expanding to a broader network spanning Europe, the Middle East and beyond. The airline revealed parts of its strategy at the unveiling of its first 787-9 aircraft in Riyadh.

Riyadh Air’s Fleet Continues To Grow
The arrival of the third Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner provides Riyadh Air with additional operational flexibility as it transitions from certification and proving flights into full commercial operations. On June 6, 2026, the airline had the third 787-9 arrive from Everett into Jeddah, registered HZ-RXAC.
The aircraft joins the first two custom-built Dreamliners delivered by Boeing earlier this month, forming the foundation of a fleet that will eventually comprise up to 72 Boeing 787s. Riyadh Air has repeatedly stated that the Dreamliner will serve as the backbone of its long-haul strategy, connecting Saudi Arabia to key markets across Europe, Asia, Africa and North America.
The deliveries are particularly significant because Riyadh Air’s launch timeline had previously been impacted by Boeing’s production delays. The recent arrival of multiple aircraft in quick succession suggests the carrier is finally receiving the hardware needed to execute its ambitious plans.
London Becomes Riyadh Air’s First Flagship Route
The airline has identified London Heathrow as its first major international destination and has already opened public bookings for the route. The airline has already been operating flights to London Terminal 4 since late 2025, but these flights have not been available to the public; rather, they are only available to employees of Riyadh Air and its financial backer and owner, the Public Investment Fund. The airline had announced that commercial flights would operate from July 1, 2026, and had opened bookings for those flights. However, these flights are now moved up to launch on June 10, 2026.
The Riyadh-London service is far more than a symbolic inaugural route. Riyadh Air describes the connection as a strategic corridor linking two G20 capitals and one of the world’s most important business and financial markets. The route is expected to attract a mix of business travellers, tourists and connecting passengers as Saudi Arabia continues to position itself as a global destination.
Operational activity is expected to intensify from June 10 as the carrier ramps up preparations ahead of the commercial deployment of its new Dreamliners. Business Class on the inaugural flight is already blocked off or sold out. Only Economy and Premium Economy Class travel is available.

For Riyadh Air, London also represents an immediate opportunity to showcase its product against some of the world’s most established airlines, including British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and Saudia.
Riyadh Air Is Betting Big On The Passenger Experience
Unlike many startup airlines that focus primarily on low fares or niche markets, Riyadh Air is entering the market with a premium proposition from day one. The airline has confirmed that the London route will be operated by its newly delivered Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, featuring four cabins: Business Elite, Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy. The objective is clear — compete directly with the premium offerings of Gulf rivals such as Emirates, Qatar Airways and Etihad Airways.
The headline product is Business Elite, a premium suite featuring sliding privacy doors, large 32-inch 4K entertainment screens, and fully flat beds. Selected centre suites can even be converted into double beds, a feature usually associated with the most premium products in commercial aviation.

Riyadh Air’s Business Elite Suites
Business Class passengers receive direct aisle access, large entertainment screens, and fully flat seating, while Premium Economy has been positioned as a genuine upgrade rather than simply extra legroom. The cabin features wider seats, enhanced dining and significantly more personal space than Economy.
Guests on Riyadh Air’s Dreamliners will experience one of the world’s most modern in-flight entertainment (IFE) systems, offering a rich selection of over 500 movies and 600 TV series from partners like Shahid, Disney+, HBO Max, and Warner Bros., complemented by 1,000 audio albums and playlists, via Panasonic Avionics’ Astrova IFE system, which delivers pioneering technology including ‘mobile-first’ connectivity, cinema-quality visuals, wireless listening via Bluetooth and USB-C charging.
Riyadh Air guests will also experience restorative Saudi-made Kayanee in-flight products, with bespoke Disney amenity kits for younger travellers, the finest in-flight dining experience, luxurious bedding by John Horsfall and a customised wellness journey that touches all five senses to ensure a peaceful flight. Guests travelling in Business Elite and Business will receive exclusive Kayanee loungewear, while Premium Economy guests will receive a Kayanee loungewear top, ensuring every guest arrives feeling refreshed and at ease.
Across all cabins, Riyadh Air is promising high-speed onboard connectivity and complimentary Wi-Fi for members of its Sfeer loyalty programme. The airline has also introduced a “Best Offer Guarantee” for loyalty members booking directly through its channels, part of a broader strategy to encourage direct customer engagement from launch.
One of the more interesting aspects of Riyadh Air’s strategy is its emphasis on consistency. CEO Tony Douglas has repeatedly stated that the airline wants to deliver a premium experience across every cabin rather than concentrating investment solely at the front of the aircraft.
Five Additional Destinations Have Already Been Identified
While London receives most of the attention, Riyadh Air’s ambitions extend far beyond a single route.
The airline has already identified Cairo, Dubai, Jeddah, Madrid and Manchester as part of its early route network. Together, these destinations create a balanced mix of regional connectivity, business travel demand and leisure traffic. The airline also intends to operate to India in the near future.
The selection offers some clues about Riyadh Air’s broader strategy.
Dubai and Cairo provide access to two of the region’s largest aviation markets. Jeddah serves as an important domestic hub within Saudi Arabia. Madrid and Manchester demonstrate that the airline intends to develop multiple European gateways rather than relying exclusively on London.
- June 14, 2026 onwards: 2X Daily Riyadh to Jeddah flights
- June 18, 2026 onwards: 1X Daily Riyadh to Dubai flight
- June 25, 2026 onwards: 1X Daily Riyadh to Cairo flight
- July 17, 2026 onwards: 3X Weekly Riyadh to Madrid Flights
- August 23, 2026 onwards: 3X Weekly Riyadh to Manchester Flights
The Long-Term Vision: 100 Destinations By 2030
The first handful of routes represent only the beginning. Riyadh Air’s stated objective is to serve more than 100 destinations worldwide by 2030, supporting Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 programme and helping transform Riyadh into a major global aviation hub.
To support that growth, the airline is building one of the largest future fleet pipelines in the region. In addition to its Boeing 787 orders, Riyadh Air has committed to 60 Airbus A321neo aircraft for regional and medium-haul operations and has ordered Airbus A350-1000 aircraft for future ultra-long-haul expansion.
The airline has also built an extensive partnership network with global carriers, giving it access to onward connectivity well beyond destinations it serves directly. Air India signed an MoU with them just last week.
Whether Riyadh Air can eventually challenge the dominance of Emirates, Qatar Airways and Etihad remains to be seen. However, the arrival of its third Boeing 787, combined with the imminent launch of scheduled services and a clearly differentiated premium product, suggests the airline is entering the most important phase of its development.
Bottomline
Riyadh Air has now welcomed its third Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner as it prepares for commercial operations. The carrier’s London Heathrow route will serve as the launchpad for a premium passenger experience featuring Business Elite suites, Premium Economy and complimentary connectivity for loyalty members. With Cairo, Dubai, Jeddah, Madrid and Manchester already identified as future destinations, Riyadh Air is beginning to translate its ambitious vision of serving 100 destinations by 2030 into reality.
