We have written extensively about the HDFC Bank 10x Reward Points program. HDFC Bank Diners Club 10X Rewards were my favourite kind of reward currency primarily due to some offbeat transfer partners they provided in India. The list went away late last year, but still I look at it as a 33% cashback card.
The list of 10X partners frequently gets updated, but no major shakeups, until now that is. The focus is on travel & e-commerce. They initially put out a year-long list of partners, but then recalled it, and started to extend the date of the promotion by the months. Here are the announcements for April, May , June & July 2016. Then, it got extended through March 2017 but applied caps on reward earning per month, and a one month extension through April 2017. In May, they put a new list valid through July 2017.
However, there was a go-around to still get 10X points on the travel category in spite of the fact that the bank does not have any travel partners in the current 10X program. We wrote about how HDFC Bank was offering a 10X on ALL personal credit cards when using SmartBuy through the month of August 2017. The promotion got extended through December 2017 and has now been extended through March 2018. Here is the link to the new promotion.
That means you could earn 10X points for the following activities with HDFC SmartBuy here on:
- Flight Booking
- Hotel Booking
- Bus Tickets
- Mobile & DTH
- Electricity Bills
- Gas Pay
- Charity
- Shopping via Flipkart
The maximum number of reward points you can earn per cycle is 25000 Reward Points. These are over and above the reward points towards the usual 10X cycle every month.
For Debit Card holders and co-brand cardholders, such as those holding the JetPrivilege co-branded credit cards, you get a 5% cashback, but I’ll take the points any day!
The current 10X offer runs through March 2018, which is great news since the new travel & shopping season is right here upon us! Your cash backs and points would post within 90 days!

I’ve noticed Smartbuy has started to auto-include the FlyHDFC discount of INR200, does using the discount mean the purchase isn’t eligible for 10X?
@Narendra I hope not. Why do you say that?
There usually tends to be a ‘you cannot combine 2 offers’ type thing. So I’ve normally avoided actively taking the FlyHDFC discount, 200 bucks didn’t seem worth the risk of losing 10X.
I was just wondering whether pre-applying the discount isn’t a sly way of nullifying the 10X, simply because I can’t recall the last time I saw pre-applied discounts. Why else would there be an option to remove the discount before billing?
I’m just going off of instinct, no facts whatsoever, which is why I’m asking here.
Another question, on a similar note, I remember months ago seeing a requirement that you only get 10X if you transact as a ‘Guest’, is that still the same? I haven’t seen that requirement recently.
Can you please let me know how to pay for the following services using Diners Cards for 10x points:
Mobile & DTH
Electricity Bills
Gas Pay
Also Payzapp doesn’t support Diners Card
I believe One cannot book a Multi-city flight on the SmartBuy platform. Happy to hear a workaround.
You can’t pay DTH, mobile bills and electricity bills using smartbuy10x.
Use PayZapp mobile app.. 10x is also applicable on PayZapp
Payzapp does not accept Diners.
I actually want to know how to buy on Flipkart via smart buy..
Can anyone help?

” The maximum number of reward points you can earn per cycle is 25000 Reward Points. These are over and above the reward points towards the usual 10X cycle every month.”
Did you mean that we can get more than 25000 points on Dinners Black Card in a month.
@Vinith, there is 25K for 10X promotion, which is only for Diners Club cardholders (this is for Black, other variants have other caps). This is a different promotion from HDFC Bank and all cards are eligible.
Yes to technically we can earn only 25k points in a Diners Black card in a month nothing more isn’t it across all categories
? That’s what I was trying to understand.
You can do 50k points for 10x categories, split in two buckets of 25k each. There is no cap on normal points.
Could you please explain what falls under the 2 buckets (actually 3 because of international spends)? Please correct me if my below understanding is correct:
1. 25k cap for purchases through smartbuy
2. 25k cap for purchases through other 10x partners such as uber, swiggy, lifestyle etc.
3. 10k cap for international spends
@Harsha You are right. But actually there are 4 Buckets. The fourth one is other spending over and above these 3 buckets . But you get only 1X on this 4th bucket.
dont think we can do bus tickets, mobile recharges etc on smart pay. i am not able to see the same
